Wall of Pain is the name for the technique in which a character uses midair attacks to prevent a character from approaching or recovering to the stage. It's extremely effective for creating space, limiting options, and baiting poor options. It is usually used most effectively by characters with multiple jumps. Although single-jump characters can do it as well, such as Sheik or Marth, they are not as effective. Some of the best Wall of Pain techniques are Kirby's and Jigglypuff's Forward and Back Air Attacks. The most notable Wall of Pain is Jigglypuff's Back Air, which is one of, if not the most effective edge guard in Melee.
