Viridi (ナチュレ, Nature) is a major supporting character in Kid Icarus: Uprising.

She makes a cameo in the background of the Reset Bomb Forest stage, as well as taking part in the Palutena's Guidance Easter egg on Palutena's Temple. A Mii Fighter Costume modeled after her was also made available as DLC for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

Character Description[]

Viridi is the Goddess of Nature who resembles an eight-year-old child. As the Goddess of Nature, she can manipulate natural lifeforms and create new ones out of nowhere, and is fiercely dedicated to its preservation, remarking at one point that she uses cloth shopping bags, composts her food, and sorts her recycling into 15 types. Her love of nature also results in her extreme hatred towards humanity for taking advantage of nature. Though not necessarily an antagonist or inherently evil, she revels in crafting Reset Bombs and dropping them on humanity to create wholesale destruction, something Pit and Palutena have pointed out is very hypocritical of her. She also commands her own personal army known as the Forces of Nature; she is very protective of them (even going as far as to call them her "children") but will readily sacrifice them without hesitation when the situation arises.

When interacting with others, mainly Pit and Palutena, she is shown to have a rather sharp tongue, often making sarcastic remarks and biting jokes. However, this can expand into her becoming argumentative and childish, due to her rather short temper. Despite her rather arrogant and hostile nature, she eventually reveals a softer side, especially towards Pit. The two act similarly to bickering siblings, but Viridi does genuinely care for Pit and is worried for his well being, even being implied that she has developed romantic feelings for him.

Viridi in Kid Icarus Uprising

Viridi as she appears in Kid Icarus: Uprising

Viridi first appears in Chapter 11, where she dispatches another Reset Bomb onto humanity, creating a Reset Bomb Forest. Palutena orders Pit to enter it, surveying the area for any humans that potentially survived while Palutena tries to reason with Viridi to no avail, as she is dead set in her beliefs and prejudice towards mankind. Inside the forest's center, Pit defeats its stone guardian named Cragalanche, yet Viridi is unfazed and haughtily threatens to launch another Bomb. In Chapter 12, Viridi launches another Reset Bomb in the midst of the Forces of Nature's battle against Hades' Underworld Army, declaring she hates Hades more than humanity, though Pit is able to successfully diffuse it. Pit then discovers Viridi's Reset Bomb Depot and works to shut it down by destroying the Reset Bomb Pod, resulting in the Depot's implosion and destruction. This makes Viridi furious, telling Pit he is on her "to-kill list". The battle between the armies continues onto Chapter 14, where one of Viridi's commanders Phosphora engages in a battle against Thanatos, and eventually against Pit. Viridi witnesses the entire battle, where she gets frustrated when Pit manages to beat her best commander.

Viridi begins to have a change of heart, especially towards Pit, in Chapter 15, where she forms a temporary alliance with Palutena and Hades to defeat an oncoming invasion of Aurum. This is further established in Chapter 16, where she sends some members of the Forces of Nature to assist Pit; Palutena takes note of Viridi's soft spot for Pit, to which she greatly denies. She assists him further during Chapter 17 in his effort to battle against the merger between Pyrrhon and the Aurum Brain. Viridi is able to grant Pit the Power of Flight in Chapter 18 to help him reach a ruined Skyworld and find Palutena after the three-year time skip, and the two team-up in Chapter 19 to help Pit battle the Chariot Master and gain access to the Lightning Chariot in order to penetrate the force field around Palutena's Temple. In Chapter 20, Pit attempts to save Palutena, who has been possessed by the Chaos Kin; during the battle, the Chaos Kin rips Palutena's soul from her body and creates a portal leading to the Chaos Vortex. Viridi grants him the Power of Flight again and, with further help from Dark Pit, is able to enter the portal.

Viridi serves as Pit and Dark Pit's guide through the Chaos Vortex in Chapter 21, where they are able to locate the real Chaos Kin. Though both manage to defeat it and return Palutena's soul to her body, Dark Pit is trapped in the Chaos Vortex. Pit begs Viridi to reactivate the Power of Flight, but she refuses to do so as it could burn up his wings. She eventually gives in and allows him to fly, but his wings eventually burn up and is nearly killed. She joins Palutena and Dark Pit in Chapter 22 to revive Pit in the Rewind Spring. It is there where Pit informs them of Hades' sinister plan, where he has been creating Underworld monsters with human souls; this revelation horrifies Viridi, as she has been unintentionally aiding his plan. She joins Pit in Chapter 25 during his final battle against Hades, granting him the Power of Flight once again after the Great Sacred Treasure is damaged. Pit eventually prevails against the god, saving the world; in the aftermath, Viridi laments that humanity is still a problem in her eyes, leaving it ambiguous if she will continue pursuing them or not.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U[]

Aesthetic[]

Viridi makes a cameo in the background of the Reset Bomb Forest stage, as it is a simplified retelling of the events during Chapter 11 in Kid Icarus: Uprising. She will appear in the sky after a minute, where she will bellow out "Good riddance, human scum! The world is better off without you!" before dropping a Reset Bomb, serving as the transition into the stage's second form. Upon returning to the stage's original form, she exclaims "Go! Stubborn vermin!". Both clips are recycled from Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Palutena's Guidance[]

Viridi Palutena's Guidance

Viridi is a part of the Palutena's Guidance Easter egg on Palutena's Temple, where she will engage in banter alongside Pit and Palutena (as well as Chrom and Dark Pit in certain conversations) in regards to Pit's opponent(s). Much like in Kid Icarus: Uprising, she is represented through portraits in the dialogue box, which are reused from the original game.

Mii Fighter Costume[]

Mii Viridi

A costume for the Mii Swordfighter modeled after Viridi was made available as a part of the Wave 4 batch of DLC costumes. The sword it uses is her magic staff.

Trophy Description[]

Viridi's Trophy is exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version.

Viridi3DS

NTSC[]

The goddess of nature, she believes it is her duty to return heaven and earth to their pure states. and so she labels humans as contaminants of nature that should be eliminated. She butts heads with human-protecting Palutena but hates soul-stealing Hades even more.

PAL[]

The Goddess of Nature - of the earth and all living things. Viridi strongly believes in natural balance, and as far as she's concerned, humans throw that balance off entirely. She hates mankind for that, and Palutena for protecting them, but at the same time, she's not exactly keen on the Underworld Army's soul harvesting, either.

Other[]

Viridi makes a brief vocal cameo during the gameplay section in Palutena and Dark Pit's reveal trailer. She can be heard saying "Hmmph! Looks like angels only talk big!", mocking Pit.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

As both the Reset Bomb Forest and Palutena's Temple stages return, Viridi resumes her roles in both, though now with significant updates; Viridi is now a fully rendered 3D model in the Reset Bomb Forest instead of a static image, and the Palutena's Guidance has been updated to include newcomers, characters that weren't in 3DS/Wii U, and previous DLC characters.

The Mii Fighter Costume based on Viridi also returns, now part of the base game. It must be acquired separately in the Shop; the Wig is available for 450G, while the outfit is 650G.

Spirit[]

A Spirit of Viridi is available in the base game. It is a Support Spirit under the Legendary class. Her Spirit Battle uses a Mii Swordfighter wearing the Viridi costume and is assisted by a giant Kirby in his gray palette swap, as he is meant to resemble Cragalanche (he will also frequently attack with Stone). The Mii Swordfighter's special moves also have increased power. The match will only last for 55 seconds, which is how long it takes for the Reset Bomb Forest stage to transition into the next area. The song that plays during the battle is "Wrath of the Reset Bomb". Only the Mii Swordfighter must be defeated to win.

Viridi can also be summoned by using the Spirit Cores of Xerneas, Alarune, any Primary Neutral Spirit, and any Support Spirit. In World of Light, it is one of the Spirits that can conjure rain, which can grow a beanstalk that is needed to reach both Olimar and The Light Realm's sky area.
