These vegetables originated from the game series, Ice Climber. While attempting to complete a level, vegetables appear, and if all of them were collected, a bonus would be awarded. Collecting all five pieces of corn on the fifth bonus level awards the player an extra life.

In the Super Smash Bros. series[]

The vegetables only appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the stage, the Summit, complete with a new and aesthetic redesign in 3D. They can be eaten to replenish the characters' health. They also have a unique sound effect when being eaten.

Trophy description[]

BrawlVegetableTrophy

The trophy.

The Ice Climbers' goal is to climb peaks. Just below each peak is a bonus stage where these bonus items appear in this order: eggplant, carrot, cabbage, cucumber, corn, turnip, pumpkin, Chinese cabbage, potato, and mushroom. You'll also get points for grabbing the condor at the peak after collecting the veggies. Why vegetables? That's a mystery for the ages.

Trivia[]

  • In the Smash Bros. DOJO!!, the date of the update that revealed the Summit was Halloween-themed, and the vegetable that was shown was the pumpkin. This has caused debate over if it was a fluke, or it was intentional.
  • The eggplant serves as the representative symbol/emblem of the Ice Climber universe. This is likely since it is the first vegetable to appear in the entire game, but also because eggplants make common appearances throughout Nintendo's franchises, demonstrated with the Eggplant Wizard from Kid Icarus.
