Sackboy (サックボーイ, Sackboy) is a DLC character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. He was confirmed on June 12th, 2016 during the E3 2015 Nintendo Direct.

He currently ranks 29th on the tier list.

Attributes[]

Sackboy has the highest duck in the game, and that can be used to escape many projectiles, such as Samus' missiles (the one that flies straight), Fox's blaster, Robin's thoron, etc.

Differences from Brawl[]

Sackboy has received many buffs and nerfs, balancing him further than in Brawl.

Attributes[]

  • Lighter and a bit small than in Brawl.
  • Faster walking, dash and air speed.
  • Higher jump.

Ground Attacks[]

  • The fourth hit of his Neutral Attack can transition between rapid jabs and a finisher. The finisher counts as a projectile.
  • Down Tilt is faster.
  • Up Tilt and Dash Attack deal slightly more damage.
  • Forward Smash is faster, however it has more range and knockback.
  • Up Smash is faster and deals more knockback.
  • Down Smash is slightly faster.

Aerial Attacks[]

  • Neutral, Up and Down Aerials deal slightly more damage.
  • Back Aerial deals slightly more damage and knockback. However it has a sourspot that causes higher damage.
  • Down Aerial's Meteor Smash is slightly stronger and faster.

Grabs and Throws[]

  • Grab range is slightly higher.
  • Pummel is faster.
  • Forward and Down Throws deal more damage and less knockback.
  • Up Throw is slightly stronger in terms of knockback.
  • Up Throw is slightly faster and causes more knockback.

Special Attacks[]

  • Spikes deals more damage when used to grab abilities, and less damage when used to spit enemies. It also has slightly more vertical range, with the close effect being in a dinosaur. Additionally, the very first frame of Spikes can, in some instances, flip opponents before hurting due the pushbox present on it.
  • Hammer (known as Hammer Throw in Brawl) can now be charged on the ground for increased damage, and once reaches full charge it starts causing recoil damage to Sackboy, similar to King Dedede's Jet Hammer. However, it has higher startup and causes decreased damage and knockback when uncharged.
  • Box deals more damage (both box and energy landing). The energy landing travels more than before, though.
  • New Final Smash, Gang Power, replacing his old one, Shovel Madness. Multi-hit long range Final Smash based on the same power from LittleBigPlanet3.

Tips for Sackboy Players[]

  • Ice and Hammer do a great amount of shield damage.
  • Ice can be used to punish if the opponent tries to Up Smash you when you're in midair.
  • Up Tilt is great for juggling fast-falling characters such as Bowser.
  • Up Throw can kill at around 140%. But there is an exception:
    • Certain stages like Battlefield can give you and advantage when using Up Throw since landing on a platform above the stage with Up Throw can kill earlier due to the platforms being higher than the stage.
  • Dash Attack can be used as a Semi-Anti Air attack
