We've known for a while that Nintendo would be hosting a Super Smash Bros. invitational tournament at this year's E3, where professional contenders will face off against one another in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U – but, until today, Nintendo has been quiet about the particulars of the event.

In a video released today, Nintendo revealed the following details about the event:


  • Tuesday June 10th, 4pm-6:30pm PST
  • Watch Live on Twitch
  • Nokia Theatre in LA

Playable Character Roster


  • "Players will choose a single character for the whole tournament from a limited roster through a special draft."
  • Single-Elimination
  • Four players
  • Four stock
  • Five Minutes
  • Top 2 Advance
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd rounds - items on; grand-final - items off

Fans of Nintendo's much-loved Gamecube controller also have reason to rejoice: Nintendo capped off the video by announcing a peripheral that will let players connect the controllers to the Wii U.

Nintendo also provided a list of challengers and event announcers.
