Umbra Clock Tower is a downloadable stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U which was released in a bundle with Bayonetta on February 3rd, 2016. It cost $5.99 to purchase on one version of the game and $6.99 for both.

As Bayonetta was included due to fans voting for her on the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, Umbra Clock Tower was also added because of the voting, in order to give Bayonetta a home stage.

Overview

The stage consists of a small flat platform which is in constant freefall, although this does not affect character gravity.

During the match, moving platforms will appear for a short time. Masahiro Sakurai recommends using the terrain to your advantage in combat. The falling debris of the clock tower will orient themselves around the main platform in seven different forms, and each form appears once in a randomized cycle until each one has appeared once, after which the cycle restarts.

One form involves a hard platform moving from the right side of the screen to the left side, tilting back and forth as it moves. Fighters standing on the platform as it passes the blast zone can be K.O.'d.

Another form involves two platforms appearing off to the sides of the main platform and slightly elevated from it. The left platform's left side extends past the blast zone and vice versa for the right platform, making it possible to get easy K.O.s off the left and right blast zones using these platforms. The platforms are soft but lack edges.

For another form, three platforms appear on the stage, with two smaller platforms on the sides of the main platform and located a small drop below the edges, and one longer platform located above the middle of the main platform.

Another orientation has three platforms, with one long platform located high above the main platform that gently tilts from side to side. A short distance above the edges of the main platform are two small platforms that are slanted outwards to the stage.

An orientation that is quite unorthodox involves a long platform appearing underneath the main platform with a small platform located a short distance below the edge to allow for access to the platform underneath the stage. This form of the stage allows for easy ceiling spiking since the bottom of the main platform will act as a ceiling to fighters standing on the platform underneath.

One form of the stage has two platforms, with one long platform being situated just above the main platform with a smaller platform located above and to the left of it. There is another form of the stage with this orientation, though mirrored, having the longer platform set higher above the main platform and the smaller platform being set below and to the right of the platform.

Purgatorio.

During the fall, the stage will enter an alternate dimension known as Purgatorio. Purgatorio is much brighter and features angels in the background, such as Inspired and Fortitudo.

Trivia

  • The clock face on the main platform actually corresponds to the time set on the console's system clock.
