Thwomps are common enemies in the Mario franchise. The first time Thwomps appear in the Super Smash Bros. series is Super Smash Bros. Melee, but Thwomps had their first major role in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in which they are an Assist Trophy.
From Super Smash Bros. Melee onward, one of Kirby's Stone appearances is a Thwomp. In Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Kirby's Thwomp transformation is designed after its appearance in Super Mario 64. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it takes on the Thwomp design introduced in the Wii era of Mario games.
A trophy of a Thwomp appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee, but unlike the Kirby transformation, its design is based on its appearance in Super Mario Bros. 3. Another Thwomp trophy appears in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, but not its Wii U counterpart.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

A Thwomp as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
If Thwomp is summoned from an Assist Trophy, it hangs in the air until an opponent of its summoner passes underneath it, then Thwomp will try and fall onto the fighter, damaging them. If left alone, Thwomp will teleport to a different part of the stage. Thwomps cannot be defeated, and disappear after a while, as with any other Assist Trophy character.
Additionally, a Thwomp appears as an Advanced-class support spirit. It takes up two support slots, granting resistance to melee weapons when used, and the Thwomp can be summoned using a Rock Pikmin and Rocky core.
