Terry Bogard (テリー・ボガード) is the main protagonist of the Fatal Fury series and a supporting character in The King of Fighters series, both from SNK.

  +
He joined Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the fourth fighter in Fighters Pass Volume 1 and the fifth downloadable character overall.
Terry Bogard is one of the major characters in SNK multiverse, particularly fighting game series. He is the main protagonist of the Fatal Fury series and the eponymous hungry wolf of the series' Japanese title, Garou Densetsu (餓狼伝説, lit. Legend of the Hungry Wolf.) He is part of the original Fatal Fury continuity which also shares a timeline with the Art of Fighting (龍虎の拳 Ryuko no Ken, lit. Dragon Tiger Fist) series. Terry is also one of the major supporting characters in a different timeline depicted in The King of Fighters series where he is the core leader of the Fatal Fury Team. Said team usually features his brother Andy and their Muay Thai battler friend Joe Higashi.

Terry is an American martial artist hailing from the fictional South Town and is often depicted as a fierce fighter while also being a extroverted, charismatic, and cheerful man. He harbors no ill will towards anyone except for the truly evil. His fighting style is a mix of several, including kickboxing, kung fu, and Hakkyokuseiken, a fictional art in the Fatal Fury universe created by his master Tung Fu Rue. Outside of fighting, Terry occupies his time by working several part-time jobs, playing video games, partaking in street basketball matches, taking care of his pet monkey Ukee, and hanging out with his girlfriend "Blue" Mary Ryan.
Terry is a friendly and charismatic fighter who never loses his friendly nature to save anyone from the irredeemably evil threats. He's happy to accept a challenge no matter who offers one up.

He and his brother Andy were orphans who survived on the streets of Southtown until they were adopted by Jeff Bogard. When the two turned 10, however, they witnessed their father's death at the hands of Southtown criminal kingpin Geese Howard, and vowed to train to overthrow Geese and avenge their father. While Andy went to train in Japan, Terry remained in America to train on the streets, while also learning martial arts skills from his mentor, Tung Fu Rue. Eventually when Terry and Andy were in their late teens, Geese hosted the King of Fighters tournament, which Terry entered along with Andy and their new friend Joe Higashi, a Muay Thai martial artist.

Terry and his younger brother Andy grew up as orphans in the dangerous streets of South Town. They were soon adopted by Jeff Bogard, a student of martial arts master Tung Fu Rue. As revealed in the opening of Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition, when Terry was 10 years old he witnessed the murder of his father at the hands of notorious crime lord Geese Howard, who was another student of Tung Fu Rue's and a former friend of Jeff's. Fueled by their need of vengeance, the Bogards spend the following decade learning how to fight; Andy travels to Japan to learn ninjutsu while Terry stays to fight through the mean streets of South Town and learn from Tung Fu Rue.

The tournament ended with Terry defeating Geese, who seemingly fell to his death from his high rise building Geese Tower. A year later, the German warrior Wolfgang Krauser hosted a worldwide version of the tournament and proved to be much more challenging an opponent to Terry, who nonetheless won the battle. Some time later, the very much alive Geese re-emerged to take control of the Jin scrolls, a set of scrolls offering the secret of immortality that were held by the Jin twins. While opposing Geese along the way, Terry met his currently on-and-off again girlfriend "Blue" Mary Ryan. Terry was able to pacify the Jins and the ruthless criminal Ryuji Yamazaki, though Geese escaped with the scrolls and hosted one last tournament. Once again Terry won and sent Geese flying off of his tower. This time, Terry put aside his hatred to save his nemesis, but Geese swatted Terry's hand away and willingly fell to his demise. Some time after, Terry adopted Geese's son Rock Howard and trained him, in an effort to put the feud between him and Geese behind him.

The end of their decade of training leads into the events of the first Fatal Fury (and its 3D remake Wild Ambition), where the brothers and their friend, Muay Thai champion Joe Higashi, enter the newly-organized King of Fighters tournament. They face off against a series of fierce competitors, including Brazilian nightclub owner Richard Meyer, heavyweight boxer Michael Max, Australian wrestler Raiden, DJ and dancer Duck King, Joe's rival Hwa Jai, and Geese's British right-hand man Billy Kane. The tournament's final opponent is Geese himself, where the player confronts him at the top of Geese Tower. The battle ends with Geese falling from his tower to his supposed demise below.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves is the currently last mainline game in the Fatal Fury continuity thus far and features an older Terry wearing a vastly different outfit from his usual getup, including his Rising Tackle is inherited by a grown up Rock. A new city known as "Second South" has been established, and a new tournament called "Maximum Mayhem" is hosted by Kain R. Heinlein, a new generation crime lord who plains to make Second south an independent state and thrust it into chaos so people can appreciate "truly living" on the edge. Terry and Rock are invited to participate. It is later revealed that Kain is Geese howard's brother-in-law and thus Rock's uncle, and in order to learn more about his long lost mother, Rock joins Kain. Terry, surprised, accepts this and wishes Rock the best of luck on his journey. In his own MOTW arcade ending, Terry is somewhat troubled by Kain's words about humanity's true nature, but then decides that life is "all about heart" and remains optimistic for the future.

Terry is mostly a supporting character in the King of Fighters video game continuity as the leader of the "Fatal Fury" team. Said team usually features himself, Andy and Joe Higashi, but occasionally the team is joined by fellow veterans Blue Mary, the wrestler Tizoc the Griffon (also known as King of Dinosaurs) or the dance club master Duck King and the tae kwon do hero Kim Kaphwan who Terry had teamed up with in XI. Terry is also a recurring playable character in the KOF series' own alternate continuity Maximum Impact, which seems to combine most aspects of the KOF canon (Terry and Ryo Sakazaki being the same age) with the original Fatal Fury/Art of Fighting timeline (Geese being dead, Rock being old enough to participate)

Terry is one the few fighters to have partaken in all KOF games, beginning with The King of Fighters '94 - though his role in the series is that of being the team captain of Team Fatal Fury and being a supporting character, as his intentions for joining the tournaments in the first place were his concerns with Geese's involvement. He later reemerges in The King of Fighters 2000 to team up with her for that year's tournament and again in the following year in The King of Fighters 2001. He also has a bit more to do in The King of Fighters XIV, joining to train and oversee the young newcomer Alice Nakata, his self-proclaimed biggest fan, as well as monitor Geese's whereabouts in the tournament. His role is scaled down once again in The King of Fighters XV, where he and Andy reform the team to help Joe score a date with Billy Kane's sister Lilly.

Terry also appears in the follow-up to The King of Fighters XIV, being SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, though this time he has mysteriously been turned into a girl after being trapped in a pocket dimension alongside the rest of SNK's female fighters by Kukri. Several other characters from Fatal Fury have also taken part in some of the King of Fighters tournaments to fight alongside Terry as a part of Team Fatal Fury; though his regular teammates have been Andy and Joe, other members have included Blue Mary, the wrestler Tizoc from Garou: Mark of the Wolves (who partakes in The King of Fighters 2003), and Duck King (who partakes in The King of Fighters XI). It is also in the KOF continuity where he runs into Ryo Sakazaki from Art of Fighting, the prequel trilogy to Fatal Fury, with whom he has a friendly rivalry with.

*Terry is one of five characters to originate from a fighting game, the others being Ryu, Ken, Min Min, and Kazuya Mishima.
*Although SNK was known to create consoles, they were rather known as a private company and in their heyday, focused more on arcades and arcade games. Even before Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury were known to be given Super Nintendo releases, SNK was also known to release games for the NES, like Ikari Warriors and Crystalis, before major activity in the video game industry like the "Console Wars" and economic competitiveness prompted SNK to capitalize into the mid 1990s, and even then, SNK was also known to still provide releases to the PlayStation and other consoles due to how their own consoles were infamously known to be exorbitantly expensive for the normal consumer despite (or because of) the much promised "arcade quality in your own home" that SNK advertised.

  +
*Terry's inclusion makes Super Smash Bros. Ultimate the first time in nearly 15 years SNK and Capcom characters have appeared in the same game together since the release of SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters DS in 2006.
*Currently, it is believed Terry is put in Smash Bros. due to him, Geese Howard and other SNK superstars famously making cameos in other fighting games, and Fatal Fury itself was the first SNK’s fighting game in history before the prequel Art of Fighting and a different timeline depicted into the canonical crossover The King of Fighters. Arguably, SNK is also more famous as a hallmark company in Japan for also helping establish the quintessential of fighting video games, and much like Ryu, Terry is one of the most iconic fighting game characters in his home nation.

**Ultimate is also the second time SNK, Capcom, Bandai Namco, and Square Enix (and more specifically Fatal Fury, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, and , Tekken) have appeared in a game together, as Geese Howard, Akuma, and Noctis Lucis Caelum all joined Tekken 7 as guest characters.
*Terry is one of the three known original fighting game characters alongside Capcom's Ryu and Ken Masters.

  +
*Due to 37Games' partial acquisition of SNK in 2015, Terry is the first fighter to be Chinese-owned.
**This marks the second game where both SNK and Capcom characters clash once again since the currently dormant SNK vs. Capcom series. The first was Tekken 7, where Geese Howard was a DLC character while Street Fighters Akuma was part of the base roster.

*Terry is one of ten characters to come from a real-world location (United States), the others being Snake (United States), Sonic (Christmas Island), Little Mac (New York, USA), Ryu (Japan), Simon & Richter (Transylvania, now modern-day Romania), Ken (California, USA), Joker (Tokyo, Japan), and Kazuya (Japan).
*Additionally, Terry's inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate marks yet another of SNK's modern day guest appearances in other properties. Apart from Terry's guest appearances in Xuan Doi Zhi Wang(alongside Benimaru Nikaido), Fighting EX Layer and Brave Frontier, and Geese starring in Tekken 7 as DLC, other SNK superstar guest appearances include Mai Shiranui starring in two Dead or Alive games (5: Last Round (for limited time only) and 6 (the latter alongside Kula Diamond) and Shinobi Masters Senran Kagura: New Link, Iori Yagami in Million Arthur Arcana Blood and Haohmaru of Samurai Shodown fame slated as DLC for Soulcalibur VI.

  +
**Though Terry comes from a real country, his hometown of South Town is fictional.
*Terry had three previous guest appearances: Xuan Dou Zhi Wang, Fighting EX Layer (an exchange collaboration to have Arika's fighter Skullomania in SNK Heroines where both Terry and Skullo (including Iori (as Ms. X outside his original cross-dresser form)) are gender-swapped to females) and Brave Frontier (as a recruitable unit as part of a King of Fighters collab.)

  +
*Terry is the second third-party character to represent multiple series owned by their parent company, following Pac-Man.
*Terry is infamous among SNK fans and video game fans as a whole for his constant use of English phrases in his home series, particularly his taunt "Hey, c'mon, c'mon!" and his memetically popular "Are you okay?!" yell as part of his Buster Wolf attack.

*Terry is the third character to have a Japanese voice actor perform the voice lines in English in all regions, following Ness and Captain Falcon.

For fighter info, see Terry (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate).

Terry Bogard (テリー・ボガード) is the main protagonist of the Fatal Fury series and a supporting character in The King of Fighters series, both from SNK.

He joined Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the fourth fighter in Fighters Pass Volume 1 and the fifth downloadable character overall.

Character Description

Rock participates in the tournament alongside Terry upon hearing that his mother could still be alive, despite Terry's reluctance to let him compete - though he still wishes him the best of luck in the end when he decides to join with Kain, knowing he must let Rock choose his own path in life. In Terry's ending, he is left to wander the streets of Second South Town in the wake of the tournament's end and Rock's departure. In his walk, he ponders Kain's parting words to him about the nature of humanity and eventually comes to the conclusion that life is "all about heart" and Kain was wrong. Sometime after the events of Mark of the Wolves, as shown in the short OVA Garou Densetsu 15th Anniversary ~Memories of Stray Wolves~, Terry meets up with Blue Mary and offers to help on a case she is working on while locating the whereabouts of Rock.

SNK's series of crossover fighting games take place on an alternate timeline, as many of the events that take place in Fatal Fury are largely ignored, such as Rock being raised by Terry despite Geese and Krauser still being alive.

In Terry's ending, it is implied that this has all been a nightmare, as he also dreams of an alternate ending to Real Bout Fatal Fury, where Rock emerges and kicks Terry off of Geese Tower. Before he can fall, Terry is awoken by Rock for breakfast time.

Terry SSBU

Fighter

Terry was announced to be included in Ultimate at the Nintendo Direct held on September 4th, 2019, confirming him to be the fourth fighter in Fighters Pass Volume 1.

Much like Ryu and Ken, Terry has his command inputs for his famous moves. If his damage is 100% or above, Terry can gain access to his Desperation Moves, being Power Geyser and Buster Wolf, through their own command inputs.

He was released on November 6th, 2019, alongside the stage King of Fighters Stadium, 50 music tracks, and an SNK-themed Spirit Board as a part of Challenger Pack 4.

Spirit

A Fighter Spirit of Terry can be obtained after beating his Classic Mode route after downloading Challenger Pack 4. As it is a Fighter Spirit, it does not have its own Spirit Battle and cannot be used.

 • Due to 37Games' partial acquisition of SNK in 2015, Terry is the first fighter to be Chinese-owned.
 • Terry is one of ten characters to come from a real-world location (United States), the others being Snake (United States), Sonic (Christmas Island), Little Mac (New York, USA), Ryu (Japan), Simon & Richter (Transylvania, now modern-day Romania), Ken (California, USA), Joker (Tokyo, Japan), and Kazuya (Japan).
