good catch. I'll try to fix it. JtM =^] (talk) 13:50, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Hey, thanks. Dorsha (talk) 10:34, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Publicities

The square shaped one hides some content of the main page, it should be removed from the main page or it should be placed some where else.

--Mr Alex (talk) 00:26, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

News addition

Ken Hoang is a contestant on Survivor: Gabon. I think this is a big deal for the Smash community. Could we consider putting it on the Main Page news? Dogman15 (talk) 21:07, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

It has very little relevance to Smash, so I would say no. --Posted by Pikamander2 (Talk) at 21:11, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I think it would work in the Did you know section. I'll add it. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 04:48, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Poll

I think its time to change the poll, its every week right? Who normally runs it?Smoreking T C 14:26, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Cafinator >_> JtM =^] (talk) 15:00, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
And what has happened to Cafinator recently?Smoreking T C 15:01, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
he got banned... JtM =^] (talk) 15:17, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
So, who's gonna run it? Cheezperson (talk) 03:04, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
I can, I guess... or someone could contact Cafinator outside of wiki and ask him. --Shadowcrest 03:36, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Go ahead and take care of it. Don't help people get around their bans. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 14:50, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

I ADDED A FEATURED VIDEO LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER WIKI'S HAVE! KP317 (talk) 19:52, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Do we really need that? Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 22:18, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
No, but it's kool, and makes our wiki more... "Welcoming". Where should I put it? Pikamander2 thinks I should place it below the DYK? KP317 (talk) 05:12, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
I think the video should be removed. For starters, you didn't get any consensus to add it in the first place, and even though it's been removed (twice) you keep adding it without discussing it yourself. (Your post above is really an announcement, not a discussion.) Past that, adding a YouTube embed to the main page slows down load time. Also, videos like the Smash Bros. intro aren't really compelling instances of "fair use," certainly aren't original to Smash Wiki, and aren't encyclopedic. Being welcoming isn't a valid reason--sure, we should be accessible, but putting a video unrelated to any article content on the main page doesn't do that at all. --Kirby King 22:21, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
I believe that the there can be a video but only if its extremely important, such as Brawl's first trailer shown when it was first released. But for right now, I don't believe any videos can be used to positisivise(make positive) the main page. The intro isn'r extremely important to the wiki.Smore Talk 00:12, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

maybe i kept adding it because people kept deleting it without discussing why, DUH. secondly, rawk, you can just shut up right now, because you didn't even post a valid reason like kirbyking and smoreking did. thirdly, thats fine if you guys don't want it in there, but i still don't see the harm. KP317 (talk) 21:25, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

On a page as important as the Main Page, the onus is on you to discuss changes beforehand. MaskedMarth (talk) 15:49, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Match-Ups

The other day, my friend was browsing through Smash Boards, and he found a graph of all the character match-ups, that showed large advantages, slight advantages, equal, slight disadvantages, and large disadvantages, and this has been very helpful to use when we play. I think instead of having to go through the whole match-up fiasco again, this picture could just be uploaded instead. I would do it myself, but I only get on smash wiki at school, and smash boards is blocked. BEN!

Link please. --Posted by Pikamander2 (Talk) at 20:55, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

This one http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=186338 And this one http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=157979 Personally, I favor the second one.... pretty pictures BEN!

From what I've seen of those match-up charts, they're mostly just the charts of specific users or small groups. If the Back Room gets behind them, or if they become widely accepted among the top players, maybe we could add it. As for now, lets not. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:19, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't agree with those match-up charts. They seem rather inaccurate. - GalaxiaD (talk) 23:24, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

In hindsight, I guess I agree. I didn't have any problems beating a lvl. 9 Meta Knight with Captain Falcon, Link, and Ganondorf. I think it may be geared more towards CPU battles; whenever we do a tourney with equal lvl. CPUs, the chart seems to be correct. BEN!

I based my tier list off that second one. JtM =^] (talk) 21:33, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

It wouldn't hurt to give those matchup charts the same treatment as phanna's All Characters Match-Up Chart. MaskedMarth (talk) 05:16, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I would concur with you except for the fact that neither of those matchup charts are as well designed as Phanna's. All they were based on is comments that people put in the forums. So, if someone simply wrote a lot about how s/he had trouble beating Ganon as Meta Knight, those charts would just take that into account without checking empirical data. Adding new sections to the Main Page

Let's not, especially if you haven't so much as mentioned your idea here, on the talk page for the Main Page. I don't know why there's this fascination with adding polls and videos and other things that are not in any way, shape, or form, encyclopedic, but I'm very much sick of it. This isn't the only place on the Internet about Super Smash Bros., people! --Kirby King 00:56, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Final Fantasy Wikia does it, so why not? Besides, I really think it's a good idea. I thought this site was for the fans. Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:01, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
This isn't the final fantasy wiki. We're not a fan site, we're an encyclopedia for Smash Bros. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 01:20, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
But still, wikis are created for the fans. To provide them with information about their favorite game. And plus, it gives them news and other amazing fanboy stuff. Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:23, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
We are not a "fanboy" wiki. We've been working hard to make this an encyclopedia since long before you showed up. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 01:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
I know, and I appreciate your hard efforts. I for one wanna help out with the wiki as well. But still, I still believe that everyone should get what they want on this site. Like, fun stuff. Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:28, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, here's a Smash Bros. "Fanon/fanboy" Wiki. Some User named Slippy the Penguin gave me the link to this website for some reason. I don't even know him. MarioGalaxy {talk} 01:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
You can't go too hard on him. he did get permission. Cheezperson {talk}Achievemts 01:46, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
And you know what! While we're at it, BAN ME TOO! You may ban me from this site, but you can't never, ever, take my love for Super Smash Bros away from me! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:49, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
I have/have had no plans on banning you. All of you edits have been bona fide attempts at helping out, even if I disagree with you. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 02:51, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Fan Site

You know what, if this isn't a fansite then, then take out the polls, delete the Smash Arena then. I don't care! Do whatever you like! Wikis aren't just encylopedias you know. It's suppose to be to the fans for the fans! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:45, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't really know how to respond to this, other than to point out your method of deducing what SmashWiki is "suppose [sic] to be" (i.e. whatever you think it should be, regardless of what it currently is or what anyone else thinks it should be) is, ironically, very un-wiki. --Kirby King 01:50, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
I got that from Final Fantasy Wiki. THEY know what their fans want! I mean Cheezperson agrees with me! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:52, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
FNW did give permission for someone to do it. Check her talk page for proof. Cheezperson {talk}Achievemts 01:54, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Take a look at Wikitroid and POTC Wiki. They're not fan wikis. They're encyclopedic wikis, and two of the most informative wikis. MarioGalaxy {talk} 01:55, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

The PoTC listed DVD releases, something for fans to know so they can buy the movie in time. They also listed the awards and stuff! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:57, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

That thing about Fyre was settled on CH's talk page. MarioGalaxy {talk} 01:56, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

O_o big discussion. On Smashboards, people take facts like character attribute from here and put them on a guide. If this was a fan wiki, then they wouldnt look here anyway. People look up advanced techniques here, its an encyclopedia. JtM =^] (talk) 02:21, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Apology

I would like to apologize to Kirbyking, Clarinet, MarioGalaxy, Xtreme, and all the admins on this site about the way I acted. I should have realized that all wikis are different. Wheather they are a fanbase site or just an encylopedia, I shouldn't realized the differences between them. I wish I could take back everything I said and regret creating the Smash Arena without any admins permission and posting it on the main page. I should be responsible for my actions on this site. I really am sorry for the dillema I've caused. I hope you accept my apology and hopefully we will work things out. I am very sorry to everyone on this site. And I do thank Cheezperson for supporting me as well. So I am sorry, I shouldn't ask you guys if I could create the Smash Arena page, and hopefully you we can make a understanding. So yea, I am so sorry. Please reply back to me, I appreciate it! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 05:33, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Although I appreciate it, an apology isn't really necessary. As I said, I didn't remove the Smash Arena because I'm an admin, but because there wasn't any sort of discussion to add it. As a rule, sudden non-trivial changes to an important page can be reverted, which only means that there should be a discussion on the talk page before reinstating it (or not). Any user could have done the same thing I did, and any user could decide to make the case for including it on the talk page. Though I predict it unlikely, if there were consensus to add it, it could be added. --Kirby King 16:00, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Other Brawler Stats

I feel this should go somewhere else, but I don't know where so...

I've checked on several Wikis, and although some of those things are non-canon, we should be adding character info such as height. If there is something else we should add please pitch in. At least take this into consideration. (sidenote: Put Olimar's real size on his page and his Brawl size on his Brawl page.) Enzeru (talk) 14:48, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Did You Know? template

I think that it should be moved back to where it was. We want visitors to easily see it, which isn't as easy if it is on the side. --Posted by Pikamander2 (Talk) at 20:40, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

I can maybe try to try.Smore Talk 21:03, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

I took care of it. Good idea about doing it. Thanks. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 21:06, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

I like how it looks now, except that the Did You Know template is a bit short. Maybe we should make it have 10 facts or something. That would solve the extra space problem. --Posted by Pikamander2 (Talk) at 12:20, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, I just tried 10 facts to see how that works, and it still leaves some space. We would need to make it have 15-20 facts, but I don't think that a large wall of text would look that great. Hmm... --Posted by Pikamander2 (Talk) at 12:24, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
I've moved it back. Please view the page as an anon: With the dyk on the left and the help on the right, the page stretches unbearably at normal resolutions and only gets worse as your screen gets smaller. The dyk template is not the be-all end all of the main page. As for Pikamander, it is supposed to be short. --Sky (t · c · w) 13:32, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't think to look at it as a anon. Thanks for fixing it. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 17:00, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
haha, your screwed. im getting my way one way or another. either you can move back the DYK, or, i could put up the featured video again (maybe with something else) and you guys wont have a reason to say no. KP317 (talk) 22:58, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
What the hell are you talking about? We're not putting the featured video back up. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:03, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Give me a good reason. You can't say because it blocks the DYK anymore. KP317 (talk) 23:05, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
One, no encyclopedic value. Two, slows load time. Three, it's not a compelling case of fair use, so it very well may be illegal for some of the videos. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:06, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
first of all, it does not "slow load time". people can spare a fraction of a second. second of all, ken being on survivor has no encyclopedic value. KP317 (talk) 23:13, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, why not some player-made videos (I'd say fan-made, but let's not have that Squallinoa incident again)? I mean, videos for glitches like SLAPAYO (we have three in the article), or for matches (single or team)? MarioGalaxy {talk} 23:15, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
How about no? I'm rarely the dictator type, but I'm dictating here. I'll lock the main page if need be. Simple as that. --Sky (t · c · w) 03:51, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
and people wonder why a say the administration going on here sucks... wow. just wow. KP317 (talk) 04:07, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I can only respond with "your interests are not in the best interest of SmashWiki's front page." Especially when you threaten to enact your wishes. Anything else? --Sky (t · c · w) 04:22, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
KP317, you mean well but your discussion is verging on personal attack. I suggest you cool your jets. We'll talk about featured videos when we've calmed down. MaskedMarth (talk) 05:11, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
for your information, that is exactly what i intend. i intend for the best, and i intend to come off as a rude obnoxious jerk (just barely within the rules) KP317 (talk) 17:19, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
You may not violate the technicality of any rule, but the spirit of the rule is by far more important. Trolling counts as wiki diruption (a potentially bannable offense), as well as violating the spirit of no personal attacks. Heeding Marth's (accurate) advice would be a smart idea, and Sky is certainly acting within his bounds. --Shadowcrest 18:50, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
