Tabuu is the main villain and final boss of SSBB's adventure mode, The Subspace Emissary. Tabuu is a humanoid apparition that appears to be made of what looks like computer data, and is almost always shown with his arms crossed and slightly hunched over while hovering idle in midair. He is also able to materialize neon-colored butterfly-like energy wings that cycle through a rainbow of colors, though he usually does not have them out unless he's attacking.
Nearing the end of the story, it is revealed that Tabuu was controlling Master Hand, the alleged main villain, like a puppet on a string all along. He did this in order to destroy the smash world and bring it into eternal nothingness (for an unknown reason). When the heroes first approach him, Tabuu transforms them all into trophies and scatters them across Subspace. However; Luigi, Ness, Dedede, and Kirby managed to be revived (Thanks to special brooch that Dedede put on Luigi and Ness, and one that Kirby had found and eaten), and found and revived all the others. They then had to journey through the areas of the Smash World that were brought into subspace in order to find Taboo. When they finally do, they arrive just as he is about to finish the destruction of the Smash World, when he is inadvertently interrupted by Sonic. Using this distraction, the Smashers were able to unite and destroy Tabuu, restoring the Smash World back to normal.
Tabuu is fought aboard a Final Destination-like stage, and has a number of abilities. He can teleport, transform into a giant blade and dash straight forward, create an energy sword and dive in an arc to attack, use an energy grapple to grab and toss foes, throws a disk-like boomerang blade, create an electrical field around himself, and spread his wings to create a devastating, yet easily avoidable with a side dodge shockwave. He can also create explosions with a snap of his finger, summon a dragon head that shoots a powerful energy beam, and increase his size and attack with laser vision.
According to his trophy, he is from a realm that exists far from the Smash World.
