The Super Smash Bros. Brawl Main Theme song was revealed along with the game itself at the game's first trailer in E3 2006 before being posted at the site much later. This thundering orchestra with vocals sung in Latin was composed by famed Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu, and its lyrics were supervised by Masahiro Sakurai himself. The lyrics are seen in the closing video of the Subspace Emissary. The instrumental part is the leitmotif of Brawl, mainly being used in its special modes.

Lyrics[]

Latin
Audi famam illius.
Solus in hostes ruit
et patriam servavit.

Audi famam illius.
Cucurrit quaeque
tetigit destruens.

Audi famam illius.
Audi famam illius.

Spes omnibus, mihi quoque.
Terror omnibus, mihi quoque.

Ille
iuxta me.

Ille iuxta me.
Socii sunt mihi,
qui olim viri fortes
rivalesque erant.

Saeve certando pugnandoque
splendor crescit.

English Lyrics[]

Localised English Lyrics[]

The commercial English text variant of the lyrics is given in the end game credits of The Subspace Emissary, but is localized and, as a result, is not strictly literally translated. Right the first word, 'audi' (meaning "listen') has been mistaken with 'audivi' (meaning I've heard).

Localised English
I’ve heard legends of that person

How he plunged into enemy territory
How he saved his homeland

I’ve heard legends of that person
How he traveled the breadth of the land
Reducing all he touched to rubble

I’ve heard legends of that person

I’ve heard legends of that person

Revered by many -- I, too, revere him
Feared by many -- I, too, fear him

Now, that person
Stands at my side

Now that person stands at my side
Now my friends are with me
Some of them were once heroes
Some, my mortal enemies

And as we face each other in battle, locked in combat
We shine ever brighter

Literal English Translation[]

A more literal translation is as follows:

(Sense to be supplied by the reader and illustrations for insight into the Latin are given in parentheses. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do -- Galen Burnett, Nomen Meus Galenos (YouTube).)
Literal English
Listen (oh friend) to the incredible stories of that man (hero)!

Alone he fell upon his foes (with the weight of a tumbling stone wall)
And saved the land.

Listen (oh friend) to the incredible stories of that man (hero)!
He rushed (as a war-chariot on the plain before Ilium), tearing down whatever (obstacles) he smote.

Listen (oh friend) (...)
Listen (...)

(He is) the hope for everyone, also for (including) me.
(He is) an awesome fear for everyone, also for (including) me (I am in awe of him).

That hero (man)(one); That (great) one (is) (firmly) beside me (here)(now) (and so I am stronger and have courage). That hero (man)(one).

I have brothers-in-arms who were (are known to be) brave heroes and (even) were my neighbours.

By ferociously competing and fighting,
(our) brightness and clarity arises (we begin to glow).
