The Super Smash Bros. Brawl Main Theme song (known as "Audi Famam Illius") was revealed along with the game itself at the game's first trailer in E3 2006 before being posted at the site much later. This thundering orchestra with vocals sung in Latin was composed by famed Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu, and its lyrics were supervised by Masahiro Sakurai himself. The lyrics are seen in the closing video of the Subspace Emissary. The instrumental part is the leitmotif of Brawl, mainly being used in its special modes.

Audi famam illius. Solus in hostes ruit et patriam servavit. Audi famam illius. Audi famam illius. Spes omnibus, mihi quoque. Ille Ille iuxta me. Saeve certando pugnandoque |
English Lyrics[]
Localised English Lyrics[]
The commercial English text variant of the lyrics is given in the end game credits of The Subspace Emissary, but is localized and, as a result, is not strictly literally translated. Right the first word, 'audi' (meaning "listen') has been mistaken with 'audivi' (meaning I've heard).
Localised English |
---|
Iโve heard legends of that person How he plunged into enemy territory Iโve heard legends of that person Iโve heard legends of that person
Revered by many -- I, too, revere him Now, that person Now that person stands at my side And as we face each other in battle, locked in combat |
Literal English Translation[]
A more literal translation is as follows:
Literal English |
---|
Listen (oh friend) to the incredible stories of that man (hero)! Alone he fell upon his foes (with the weight of a tumbling stone wall) Listen (oh friend) to the incredible stories of that man (hero)! Listen (oh friend) (...) (He is) the hope for everyone, also for (including) me. That hero (man)(one);
That (great) one (is) (firmly) beside me (here)(now) (and so I am stronger and have courage).
That hero (man)(one).
I have brothers-in-arms who were (are known to be) brave heroes and (even) were my neighbours.
