The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, also known as the Super NES, SNES, Super Nintendo, and in Japan as the Super Famicom (スーパーファミコン Sūpā Famikon?) is a 16-bit video game console that was released by Nintendo in North America, Europe, Australia, and South America between 1990 and 1993. It was the sucessor to the oringinal NES, though did not sell as well. On this system, many of Smash Bro.'s fighters starred in their first game, though would be much better known in the release of the system's sucessor, the Nintendo 64 in 1996.
In the Super Smash Bros. series[]
Several characters have made their first appearances on the Super NES.
Wolf O'Donnell appeared in Star Fox 2 which was completed and set to debut on the SNES, but due to its release schedule being too close to that of the Nintendo 64, the game was shelved and Wolf ended up debuting in Star Fox 64.
Banjo was originally set to appear in Dream: Land of Giants for the SNES, but constant production delays moved the game to the Nintendo 64 and it was retooled in Banjo-Kazooie.
Trivia[]
- The SNES appears in the back of the Melee trophy display case along with several other consoles.
