The stage begins on top of the mountain but quickly breaks to the point where it begins to slide down a hill. During the descent, everybody becomes much more floaty. The key factor to survival is to remain on the stage, as making contact with the mountain while the ice cap is moving will result in an instant KO. Eventually, the peak splashes into water, where the giant fish (see below) from Balloon Fight may eat you if you swim around for too long. As time progresses, the stage eventually sinks, due to extreme weight from the Polar Bear in the backround. After a while, the iceberg flies back up to the top of the mountain and the whole process is repeated. Several vegetables from the original Ice Climber game will make an appearance acting as Food Items. The vegetables appear in the order they do in the original game, namely an eggplant, carrot, cabbage, cucumber, corn, turnip, pumpkin, Chinese cabbage, potato, and a mushroom. They all restore 5% of health with the exception of the corn, which restores 10%.

The key factor to survival is to remain on the stage, as making contact with the mountain while the ice cap is moving will result in an instant KO on the right and high knockback and damage on the left (usually high enough that one will fail to recover and fall back onto the mountain). Eventually, the peak splashes into water, where a giant fish follows the iceberg and will rise below the surface and swallow the players and will dive underwater again, causing the player to lose a life, but only if they swim around for too long. As time progresses, the stage eventually sinks, due to extreme weight from the Polar Bear in the background. After a while, the iceberg flies back up to the top of the mountain and the whole process is repeated.

While the stage remains on the mountain, flying clouds will hover across the stage acting as a boardable platform. Similarly, when the battle reaches the ocean, little segments of ice often float past, which are particularly useful for avoiding the fish. Small icicles also form underneath the left part of the ceiling on the bottom and drop on unsuspecting players. As well as that, certain pieces of the stage are destructible; the blue ice in the middle can be shattered and the platform on the left can be broken at its hinge, making it vertical.

The Fish
The Fish is a hazard on the Summit and hails from the game Balloon Fight, where it lurked at the bottom of levels, breaking the surface only to swallow defeated Balloon Fighters. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the fish will pop out of the sea to eat any character that stays in the water at the bottom of the stage for too long. The fish will only appear when there is water around the base of the stage, not when the stage is at the top of the mountain or falling or rising. If the fish swallows a character, that character will be carried through the lower blast line to their death. The fish's tail is also capable of hurting characters, dealing 15% damage and giving significant vertical knockback. The fish can eat any number of characters in a single appearance, but it will always follow a set arc and will go after whichever character has been in the water the longest. If swallowed, there is no way to escape, but there is a small window of time in which a character can get out of the fish's path.

This stage is banned in tournaments, due to edges which cannot be grabbed, slippery surfaces, and powerful camping spots at the bottom of the stage, as well as the fish stage hazard. Also, the blue ice platform and the leftmost platform allow for wall infinites.
*Many players have joked about this stage representing global warming.

*Oddly, this stage is the summit of Icicle Mountain. Icicle Mountain was, however, in Infinite Glacier. As a summit is the top of something, that would mean that Icicle Mountain has a top, making it so that it is not an infinite glacier. Or it could be infinite because the process of breaking and rising back up never stops. Or the glacier could be infinite horizontally but not vertically.

*Despite Sakurai's description of this stage being the top of Icicle Mountain, it is very inconsistent with the Icicle Mountain stage seen in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

*Since the stage was revealed at the Smash Bros. Dojo on October 31, 2007, some players thought this was a reference to Halloween due to the pumpkin's appearance on the stage in one picture. However, since the item first appeared in Ice Climber anyway, this is likely a coincidence.

*During a Sudden Death match when the Bob-ombs begin falling, if any land on the stage, while it is sliding down the mountain, they will drop onto the ice, and act as though they spawned. A few seconds later, without moving, they will explode.

*This stage is possibly the worst stage for Olimar - as the edges cannot be grabbed, his tether recovery is useless, all of his Pikmin drown and die (except the Blue Pikmin) when they make contact with the water, his small size makes him very vulnerable to the Fish, and his poor air speed means he has a harder chance of catching up when the mountain descents.

Summit (頂上 Chōjō?) is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It starts on an icy mountain top which Masahiro Sakurai, the director, describes as being the summit of Icicle Mountain, a stage that appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The stage was revealed on Smash Bros. DOJO!! on October 31st, 2007.

Stage elements

The stage begins on top of the mountain but quickly breaks to the point where it begins to slide down a hill. During the descent, everybody becomes much more floaty.

While the stage remains on the mountain, flying clouds will hover across the stage acting as a platform. Similarly, when the battle reaches the ocean, little segments of ice often float past, which are particularly useful for avoiding the giant fish. Small icicles also form underneath the left part of the ceiling on the bottom and drop on unsuspecting players. As well as that, certain pieces of the stage are destructible; the blue ice in the middle can be shattered and the platform on the left can be broken at its hinge, making it vertical.

An important thing to remember is that the edges of the bottom of the stage cannot be grabbed, as they are made of ice. Naturally, the floor is extremely slippery, especially when a character attempts to change direction rapidly. The Ice Climbers are the only characters who can walk normally on the stage without sliding.

The Fish

The fish

The Fish only surfaces when prey is to be had.

The Fish is a hazard on the Summit. It will pop out of the sea to eat any character that stays in the water at the bottom of the stage for too long. The fish will only appear when there is water around the base of the stage, not when the stage is at the top of the mountain, or falling, or rising. If the fish swallows a character, it will dive underwater again, meaning that character will be carried through the lower blast line and KO'd. Otherwise, the character is certain to lose a stock.

Origin

GiantFishBF

The giant fish as originally seen in Balloon Fight eating one of the enemies.

While this stage does not come directly from Ice Climber there are elements in this stage that do come from Ice Climber. In Ice Climber there points in the game where the player has to jump on clouds that move across the stage and act as a moving platform. The first part of this stage features a cloud that floats by and acts as a moving platform. One of the enemies in Ice Climber are Polar Bears. If a player takes too long to beat a level the Polar Bear would appear and jump to make the screen scroll up. In this stage when the stage is in the water a Polar Bear can be seen in the background. The Polar Bear jumps and makes the stage go deeper in the water.

In the later levels of Ice Climber, there would be these icicles that start forming and dropping on the player. If the player gets hit by the icicles, the player would lose a life. These icicles that form and drop is retained on this stage. Ice Climber. If the player wants to get bonuses at the end of each level in Ice Climber, the player has to get all the vegetables near the top of the mountain and complete the level within a set forty second time limit. The vegetables that are shown for each level are eggplants, carrots, cabbages, cucumbers, corn, turnips, pumpkins, Chinese cabbages, potatoes, and mushrooms. In this stage, these vegetables can appear and can be eaten to lower the player's damage.

In Balloon Fight, there is a giant fish that can eat the players or the enemies if they get too close to the water or if they fall in the water after all the balloons have been popped. This giant fish can be seen in this stage when the player gets to the edge of the stage or when the player jumps in the water. If the player doesn't get out of the way in time, the fish would jump out of the water and eat the player.

Tournament legality

This stage is banned in tournaments, due to edges which cannot be grabbed, slippery surfaces, and powerful camping spots at the bottom of the stage, as well as the fish stage hazard. Also, the blue ice platform and the leftmost platform allow for wall infinites.

 • When the summit is at the top of the mountain, it is possible to see the bottom of the mountain, where the summit resides during the "water" portion of the stage's cycle. This can only be seen with a hacked camera.
 • Despite Sakurai's description of this stage as the top of Icicle Mountain, its appearance is inconsistent with the Icicle Mountain stage seen in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
 • When the summit is sliding down the mountain, the Polar Bear in the background flies off, landing later back on.
 • If playing as the Pokémon Trainer, he appears on top of the mountain.
