Suicune (スイクン, Suikun in Japanese language versions) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Creature description

Suicune is a large blue dog-like Pokémon with a purple "cape" on its head that billows like a flowing river or a northern aurora, and is one of a trio of legendary canine species that race across the land. The Pokédex explains that this divine Pokémon has the power to instantly purify filthy, murky water at any body of water, and works its magic on any such polluted water body it encounters as it runs across the land and world with elegance and gracefulness. It is said to be the reincarnation of the north winds in Pokémon form and an embodiment of the compassion of a pure spring of water, and the north winds are said to somehow blow whenever it appears and moves along.

Along with Entei and Raikou, the player can find Suicune in the Burned Tower. Once the player meets these legendary beasts, they will run off into the wild. The only way a player can find a Suicune is to pursue it in areas with wild Pokémon. Suicune appears as the mascot in Pokémon Crystal. The player can encounter Suicune in the Tin Tower in this game. Suicune also appears in the third generation games. In Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, it can be found roaming the wild once the player triggers an event on the Sevii Islands. However, the player must have chosen Charmander as their starter in order to find Suicune. Suicune can only be obtained in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl by transfering it from the third-generation games.

Suicune in Melee

Suicune is treated as a "legendary" Poké Ball Pokémon; its chance of appearing is much rarer than most of the others, and in return its effect is more powerful. Suicune uses Icy Wind as its attack. A cloud of icy wind surrounds Suicune. Any character that makes contact with the cloud of wind will take damage. A heavily damaged character may also freeze if contact is made. Suicune's attacks do not harm the summoner.

As a trophy

Suicune features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:

Suicune
This mystical aurora Pokémon constantly journeys in search of places with pure flowing water. Suicune wields the power to instantly purify any contaminated water it finds. Some say Suicune is the north wind reborn. Its strange and dramatic story is told over the course of the Crystal version of the Pokémon game. (Pokémon Gold & Silver 10/00)

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

Suicune returns to the Smash Bros. series. Unlike most returning Pokemon, Suicune has been given a new attack, which acts as a powerful beam of ice that strikes any enemy in front of it. The attack has been confirmed in DOJO!! to be Aurora Beam. Suicune makes the same windup animation it had from Melee, so players should remember that its attack is different, and avoid being hit by the Aurora Beam when they were expecting Icy Wind. This attack is also a One-hit KO.

Trivia

  • Even though Aurora Beam is an OHKO in Brawl, it is a weak to moderate attack in the RPGs, boasting a base power of only 65.
