Steve (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)

Steve is a character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and is the second fighter in Fighters Pass Volume 2. Much like Hero, three other characters (Alex, a Zombie, and an Enderman) will be available as Palette Swaps.

Steve was announced on October 1, 2020 during a trailer reveal. His proper gameplay demonstration will be held on October 3rd hosted by Masahiro Sakurai.

Moveset

Steve's moveset is a callback to Minecraft gameplay.

The following is theoretically based off of the fighter's reveal trailer and screenshots, so the details are subject to change.

Ground Attacks

Normal

Neutral Attack: A quick sword swipe.
Forward Tilt: A sword swipe. Just like Mega Man's forward tilt, it can be used while walking.
Up Tilt: A quick axe swing.
Down Tilt: Uses Flint and Steel to light a fire in front of them. The fire falls down if is lit off-ground.
Dash Attack: A pickaxe swing.

Smash Attacks

Forward Smash: A forward strike with a sword.
Up Smash: TBA
Down Smash: Pours lava out of a Bucket of Lava in front of them, then behind. The lava quickly disappears.

Aerial Attacks

Neutral Aerial: TBA
Up Aerial: Swings a weapon above them.
Forward Aerial: Swings a pickaxe forward
Back Aerial: TBA
Down Aerial: Steve places an Anvil downward while standing on it, briefly staying on the air before falling down.

Grabs and Throws

Steve has a grab that acts like a tether. It is unknown whether or not he can use it in midair like Luigi, though. He throws out a fishing rod and catches fighters. These opponents will be put in a small 2x2 oak fence pen.
Forward throw: TBA

- Up Throw: Steve spawns a piston beneath his target and launches them upward.
- Down Throw: TBA

Special Moves

Standard Special Move: Steve places a block down. Blocks will break on their own quickly.
Up Special Move: Elytra. Steve seems to rise up and glide horizontally, much like Peach or Daisy.
Side Special Move: Steve rides a minecart forward. It seems that when it bounces off of a wall, Steve falls out and the cart rides off by itself. It will pick up any enemy fighters and carry them away. Can be treated as a bury, but mobile.
Down Special Move: Crafting: Steve upgrades his items. These items will increase the quality of the moves that involve tools. (Most likely starts with Wood, then goes up in material as follows: Stone, Gold, Iron, and Diamond).

Final Smash: Steve hits his foe with a piston, sending them into a castle where several Minecraft Enemies blow them up. Steve eats some steak outside the structure while it finishes blowing up.
To-be-classified: Steve places a TNT trap and detonates it with a pressure plate. Can be left lying around much like Snakes C4.
