Star Bits is Rosalina & Luma's Side Special Move. Luma fires Star Bits from the Super Mario Galaxy series at other players, causing damage.
Overview[]
Luma can fire two Star Bits in rapid succession, and they will fly a moderate distance, causing damage. If Luma is currently KO'd, the move will do nothing, with Rosalina simply waving her wand with no effect.

Custom Variations[]
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Star Bits can be customized into Floaty Star Bit or Shooting Star Bit.
Floaty Star Bit[]
Floaty Star Bit has Luma fire one slower Star Bit that doesn't go far but hits opponents multiple times, causing higher damage.
Strengths:
- Can hit multiple times
- Larger hitboxes
- Stays out for longer
- Greater range
Weaknesses:
- Moves slowly
- Low knockback
- Higher starting lag
The Floating Star Bit is another type of custom move that can create a sort of obstacle on the stage. It moves slowly but can hit multiple times to rack up some good damage on opponents. It has greater range in comparison to that of the default Star Bits move. The move's low knockback makes it poor for getting kills but also makes it easier to hit an opponent with multiple times. It stays out for a little while, so using it on stage can force opponents to take an aerial approach or using it at the edge can make it difficult for opponents to recover. The move has higher starting lag, so a player needs to start the move earlier than when they actually need to use it or they'll be left open to attack.
Shooting Star Bit[]
Shooting Star Bit has Luma fire a single, high-powered Star Bit in a straight line that travels far, but does not do as much damage.
Strengths:
- Cover a lot of range
- Good speed
- Can easily be spammed
Weaknesses:
- Less damage
The Shooting Star Bit is an excellent spacing tool. It covers most of Final Destination, falling just short of the right edge of the stage when the move is used from the left edge. It can keep opponents out from a great distance and force them to make an aerial approach. Though it deals less damage it can be a good projectile for harassing opponents since its fast firing rate and speed make it easy to spam.

Origin[]
This move is one of the few moves to come directly from Mario Galaxy, and it is one of Mario's signature moves in the series. By pointing the Wii Remote, Mario could fire any Star Bits he had collected at a desired target. It is mainly used to stun enemies, though Mario could also use it to feed Hungry Lumas.
