Spirit Train (汽車 Kisha?) is a stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. The stage is based upon the Spirit Train in Nintendo DS title The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, which is traveling through New Hyrule. In the Developer Direct, the main theme of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks could be heard during gameplay.
Design
The battle takes place upon the Spirit Train, which is moving forwards during gameplay. The characters will be left behind if they stand on the train tracks, similarly to the road in Big Blue. If they stand on the train tracks in front of the train, they will be hit by the train and take damage (unless the Spirit Train Glitch is performed).
Characters can fight inside the carriage of the train. The roof of the carriage is a soft platform, and the train is also towing another platform behind it. Birds will occasionally carry another aerial platform on-screen. Players can also stand on top of the train itself. The train is being driven by Toon Link, in his Spirit Tracks appearance, who stands in the background, and does not interact with the fighters. However, when Toon Link himself is a participant on this stage during battle, Alfonzo will be conducting the train instead.
The rear carriage will be able to "change" during battle, including being able to detach and move backward.
Origin
The Spirit Train first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, where Link would drive it around New Hyrule to reach various destinations. The Spirit Train's design is how it appears in Spirit Tracks with the Solid Passenger Car, which comes with the train engine itself, and the Trusty Freight Truck add-on. Dark Trains, enemy trains in Spirit Tracks that try ramming into the Spirit Train, also appear in this stage as possible platforms. In this stage, Toon Link wears his engineer outfit from Spirit Tracks, unless someone chooses Toon Link or link to fight with, they replace Toon Link with Alfonzo.
Trophy Description
Engineer Link
Link is well known for his green clothing, a look he has sported throughout time. But in Spirit Tracks, he dons a blue uniform with a red cap instead. The cap is decorated with a dove, the symbol of the Royal Engineers. Playing the Song of Birds will call a dove to roost!
Spirit Train
The Spirit Train from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. You'll travel the lovely Forest Land as you fight, but be careful where you're standing--the last car can come uncoupled from time to time. You may see Linebeck III's shop, and Alfonzo drives if Link or Toon Link are busy fighting.
Dark Train
Dark Trains barrel down the tracks, blocking the way and threatening the Spirit Train. Link's cannon can stun them with five shots, though. On the Smash stage, they may explode or even leap onto the train. It is possible for fighters to attack and detonate them, creating yet another rail hazard.
Armored Train
These invincible trains really have it in for Link, even changing course if they need to. The Spirit Train can't outrun them, so the only option is to let loose with Tears of Light and destroy them. When they appear on the Spirit Train stage, they get in the way and change the speed of the train.
Alfonzo
He may look like a pirate on shore leave, but Alfonzo is actually a respected engineer and was known as the greatest swordsman in Hyrule. By the way, did you know he's the grandson of Gonzo from the Phantom Hourglass game? Even their names sound similar!
