In terms of vertical recovery, this move goes a very short distance, but it goes almost as far horizontally as Meta Knight's Mach Tornado, making it a fairly effective recovery move. When used on the ground, the Spinning Kong can be used in a fashion similar to Bowser's Whirling Fortress; it can be used out of the shield, or as a disruptive tactic. The Spinning Kong's first hit, in which Donkey Kong extends his fist to charge up the spin, has decent knockback. Mashing the B button allows this move to grant extra height and last longer. The Spinning Kong can also act as a pseudo shield for some projectiles, which is helpful when recovering.
The Spinning Kong does up to 36% damage, making it the second strongest up special in the game if all hits connect, following Lucas in first with PK Thunder 2 which can do 43%. In Brawl, the grounded version grants Super Armor just before hitting the opponent, but after using the aerial version, Donkey Kong falls on his back after landing, leaving him vulnerable until he touches the ground, platform, or is hit..
In Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U when Donkey Kong uses Spinning Kong, he appears to be tilted at more of an angle than in previous games. He also doesn't appear to spin quite as fast.

The Chopper Kong is excellent for players that are unsatisfied with Donkey Kong's up special as its default. The move has greater vertical distance and is executed very fast. It will not deal damage to opponents whether used on the ground or in the air.
Kong Cyclone is one of Donkey Kong's Up Special Moves that can be used via customization. It will pull in opponents as it spins and launch them with a big punch.

The Kong Cyclone pulls opponents towards Donkey Kong and then hits them away; it has a good launch but only hits once, making for less damage output than the default. The move does not effect recovery though it is nearly lagless, making it very fast.

There is also a glitch where if he leaves the ground when using the grounded version, the Super Armor lasts for the entire move.
