Soaring Slash is Chrom's Up Special.
Overview[]
Chrom performs an upward slash, catching any opponent within its range and launching them upwards. Chrom then jumps into the air after them while flipping and saying, "Out of my way!", "How about this!", or "I'll end you!" Afterwards Chrom proceeds to descend with a downward slash toward the ground, dragging the opponent with him. If the control stick is angled forward during the move, Chrom will move forward very slightly during the move.
Soaring Slash functions very similarly to Aether, as it grants decent vertical distance but very minimal horizontal distance. Although it's a poor recovery option, it's the only one he has. Soaring Slash also possesses super armor on its startup, which can protect Chrom and allow him to start to move uninterrupted, and also possesses a meteor hitbox on the downward portion of the attack, allowing Chrom the option of a Sacrificial KO, though with Soaring Slash Chrom will be KO'd first, provided the opponent is at low damage. However, Soaring Slash cannot reach aerial opponents high above Chrom unlike Aether due to Chrom not throwing his sword in the air before going up and not having a disjointed hitbox, making the move more useful against grounded opponents close to Chrom.
Origin[]
The Soaring Slash originates from a similar maneuver performed by Chrom in several cutscenes during Fire Emblem: Awakening, namely the scene where he fights "Marth" in Arena Ferox.
Trivia[]
- This move is also similar to Kirby's Final Cutter however Final Cutter doesn’t trap opponents and Soaring Slash doesn’t send out a wave projectile.
