Template:Character Solid Snake (ソリッド・スネーク, Soriddo Sunēku) is a character appearing in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Instead of using guns like in the real games, he'll be using explosives and the cardboard box used in the trailer. He is the first third-party character to appear in any Super Smash Bros. game. His appearance is based on Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (which was never released on a Nintendo system) Based on the most recently released trailer, Snake will have an RPG that he will use during gameplay. Other footage hints at a thrown grenade attack, later confirmed to be his Neutral B move.

It is possible that his Down B move is going to be his Cardboard Box, but this is merely speculation. Some speculated that it was his shield, similar to how Yoshi's shield is an egg; however, a recent screenshot has shown Snake throwing off his cardboard box and Mario being thrown back, which suggests that the box may be his Down B move, rather than his shield. In the recent update Snake Joins the Brawl!, Mario was shown picking up and throwing Snake's box, akin to a Crate or Barrel, revealing Snake hiding underneath. This appears to be similar to Wario's Wario Chopper move, where Wario can lose his motorcycle and must reclaim it before he can use the move again.

Snake has been seen using physical moves that look similar to those of Captain Falcon, as well as his classic punch-punch-kick combo from the Metal Gear Solid games, likely as his A combo. His grabs attack include slamming an opponent to the ground behind him, not unlike Kirby's backward throw, and "snapping" an opponent's neck, causing the victim to humorously slump down onto their back (shown in both his profile, being performed on Ike in a screenshot, and in the update "Snake Joins the Brawl," where he performs it on Mario in actual footage). His Smash attacks apparently utilize various equipment, like his B moves, according to the site. It also looks as if Snake could be a floaty character. He has also been shown using what may be his dash attack, that places him in a crouching position, ready to crawl.

A popular rumor states that Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid, wished Sakurai (or "practically begged" according to Sakurai, himself) to include Snake in SSBM, but it was too late to do it at that time.

Sakurai has stated that he feels it would be appropriate that a "guest" character such as Snake should need to be unlocked, so it is likely that Snake will be a secret character, rather than a starter.

Interestingly, Snake is the only character whose official art on Smash Bros. DOJO!! portrays him in a different pose than his original art from his old profile.
