Mario | |||||||||
Character info | The mascot for Nintendo and the character rightfully deemed the most popular person in the video game industry. His recognizable face is known almost everywhere, and his games are the more successful than any other! An unlikely hero, he shows off his true strength in Brawl by pummeling some of the most powerful players without a sweat.

A classic character whose balance and maneuverability make him a perfect beginner's choice. | File:Mario s.jpg
| |||||||||
At the beginning of the game, Mario and Kirby have a friendly fight, and ends up winning. After this, a bomb is dropped on the stage, and Mario gets shot miles away by a cannon. Pit revives him and the two go out to save the day.
Link | |||||||||
Character info | At first, it may seem like not too much has changed with Link, though really a lot has. First and foremost are probably the updated special attacks that Link can launch, almost all of which have changed in one way or another. Most of the changes are based around themes from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, a brilliant addition to the popular franchise.
A slow though nevertheless manageable character who has a variety of weapons. | File:Link s.jpg
| |||||||||
An image and a short film has shown Link teaming up with Yoshi to take down the Halberd.
Kirby | |||||||||
Character info | Some may wander why the developers made Kirby such a paramount character in the game, but the reason is blatant - HAL, the creators of the series, are well known for creating the pink puffball, and fans of the Kirby series (such as myself) will greatly notice the similarities between the two different series.
This puffball character is capable of multi-jumping and copying his opponent's abilities. | File:Kirby s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - Near the beginning, he must save one of the two princesses from Petey Piranha, where they'll then crash land on Meta Knight's Halberd.
Pikachu | |||||||||
Character info | "Pika Pika" has been literally cemented into my rotten, video game filled brain. I've heard that annoying squeak so many times, but it's certainly one of the most recognized voices in gaming. The most popular Pokémon, Pikachu has always appeared in the series, and I'm sure that no one can imagine a Smash game without number 25.
Unarguably the most popular Pokémon is back, though he's essentially the same as before. | File:Pikachu s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - Has been seen teaming up with Samus.
Samus Aran | |||||||||
Character info | Samus Aran is back, and she possibly has the biggest update of all the characters for a sole reason (well, a few, but there's one prominent one that surpasses the others). What's the reason? She can transform into an entirely different formation, just like Zelda can transform into Sheik. Samus' basic abilities haven't changed much, though she is slightly slower than the Samus of Melee. Information on Zero Suit Samus will be shown farther down in the newcomers section.
While most of her attacks are returning, she is now able to transform into Zero Suit Samus. | File:Samus s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - Has been seen in her Zero Suit form, and was last seen teaming up with Pikachu.
Yoshi | |||||||||
Character info |
Yoshi is either a character that you love to play as or you hate to play as. It'll take hours and hours of practice to learn how to execute Yoshi's moves correctly, though following this you'll begin to love him. Not much has changed this time around other than the developers giving him a third jump and giving the dino a new updated look contrary to that of Melee.
A speedy character that, until Brawl, lacked a thrid jump. | File:Yoshi s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - Has been seen teaming up with Link.
Fox McCloud | |||||||||
Character info |
Fox McCloud is the heroic animal warrior from the StarFox series. He's popular among gamers of the series, and is featured on Melee's top tier along with Falco Lombardi. Not much has changed this time around, though he has gotten an updated look that resembles his most recent appearance in Star Fox Command.
A speedy character with plenty of arsenal. New appearance from Star Fox: Command. | File:Fox s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - He crash lands the Arwing near a lake, and saves Diddy Kong from Rayquaza.
Donkey Kong | |||||||||
Character info |
Donkey Kong is known for his potent attacks and incredible lack of feebleness. He's one of the strongest characters in the game, though this also makes him a heavy and slow member of the Smash Bros. crew. He's a humorous monkey who's sole article of clothing is a necktie with his classic "DK" logo printed on the front.
One of Nintendo's first characters is returning with a new appearance. | File:Donkeykong s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - Has been seen teaming up with Diddy Kong to take down a hoard of Bowser's minions who recently stole their bananas.
Princess Peach | |||||||||
Character info |
Princess Peach has been deemed an unpopular character to choose among players, though pros have learned that she's actually very experienced. It may take a long while until you're able to master her, though when you do you'll be able to unleash her true powers. Her final smash his completely different form anyone else's, though overall not much has changed with the damsel in distress.
The damsel in distress is back with a brand new look. | File:Peach s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - At first gets trapped by Petey Piranha. If Kirby manages to save her, then the two will team up to take down enemies. If she doesn't get saved, Wario will come in and turn her into a trophy.
Princess Zelda | |||||||||
Character info |
Princess Zelda... currently, we don't know how dramatic her changes are, and as of this moment, it hasn't been confirmed whether or not she is capable of changing into Sheik. Nevertheless, her magical attacks (all based on special items from Ocarina of Time) are very powerful, more so that Sheiks, and are able to send players soaring off off of small and large stages alike.
Zelda is back though it's unknown if Sheik will also return. | File:Zelda s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - Same as Princess Peach's.
Bowser | |||||||||
Character info |
Bowser is the heaviest character in the game, which will cause him to be very slow. While he's certainly not the most popular player, he does have a few pro playing fans who'll often times use him, though mastering him will take a while. He's the King Koopa and the ruler of Bowser's Kingdom. He often times makes attempts to kidnap Princess Peach, though his plans are ultimately always thwarted by Mario.
The King Koopa is, according to the website, the heaviest of all fighters. | File:Bowser s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - Bowser is shown to be responsible for stealing Donkey Kong's banana horde. He also uses the trophy gun that Wario had to attack Fox and Diddy Kong.
Ice Climbers | |||||||||
Character info |
The Ice Climbers are two young kids who appeared in the NES video game of the same name. Their names are Popo and Nana, and are two twins. They're hard to master in the video game, and if you loose Nana, then Popo will have to fight alone. If you loose Popo, then it results in you loosing a life. Alone, Popo does not fare well, though together they're pros.
The duo are also returning with a similar appearance. | File:Iceclimbers s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - They team up with Meta Knight in the trailer.
Pit | |||||||||
Character info |
Pit is another character from the NES days. He's devoted himself to Palutena, the goddess of the Kid Icarus world. In the game, he wields a unique type of bow that has two specialized abilities. One, it can turn into a double sword, and the other being the fact that you're able to control the bows that are released from it.
A young adult who wields a bow that can be turned into two swords. | File:Pit s.jpg
| |||||||||
Role in adventure mode - Near the beginning, he'll be watching Mario and Kirby fight. After a bomb drops, he goes to the rescue and saves Mario.
Meta Knight | |||||||||
Character info | Meta Knight is a Character from the Kirby series. He comes to the game with great agility and combo potential. he can also glide and has five jumps. He uses he Galaxia Sword to beat his enemies.
