Smashpedia (formerly SmashWiki and SmashWikia) was created to compile a complete, thorough, and dynamic repository of information relating to the Super Smash Bros. franchise, a series of games produced by Nintendo. SmashWikia is a wiki, meaning that it is written and maintained by the community and can be instantly edited by a variety of contributors.

History

There were originally two wikis for the Super Smash Bros. series. These were: SmashWiki, hosted by Smash World Forums and founded by Gideon, and the Super Smash Bros. Wiki, hosted by Wikia and founded by Kirby King. On February 29, 2008, SmashWiki merged with the Super Smash Bros. Wiki on Wikia.

In the summer of 2010, Wikia changed its skin and got a large amount of criticism from its users. A proposal came to join the NIWA and leave Wikia to move to a new site. After discussing this the community decided to move to the NIWA's wiki. This made SmashWikia abandoned and a lot of vandalism happened. Throughout the next two years a few old users stayed as admins to help protect the wiki from vandalism. Many people tried to become admins or adopt the wiki but they gave up or where declined.

Finally in the summer 2013, the staff member Sannse returned to this wiki and helped rebuild it. The new community elected TheUltraman as the wiki's new admin as Sannse demoted all of the old admins and bureaucrats. This lead to a large amount of anger from the old community as a few of them created accounts to vandalize this wiki. But they all stopped once they where told to by some admins on the other wiki.

After this the wiki got a new design, new features like chat, and changed the policies. On September 21, 2013 the name was changed from SmashWiki to Smashpedia, officially ending connection with the other wiki. Later in the fall, a new admin joined the ranks, Oscuritaforze. One year later, two more admins were elected, Zmario and Yorky97, bringing the total to four.

In late January 2015, DerpyDoodle was promoted to admin, while Oscuritaforze stepped down.

Goal

Smashpedia is designed to include content relating to a number of issues including the games themselves, characters, stages, strategies and techniques, competitive play, the vibrant community that has developed around the game, and much more. Besides being a resource for advanced players looking to improve their game, it is also designed to be of use to beginners just learning how to play, those who enjoy playing Smash Bros. for fun with friends, and even those interested in learning more about the heritage of the various elements that make up the Smash Bros. universe.
