Shovel Knight is the eponymous character of game Shovel Knight. He appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an Assist Trophy.

Shovel Knight appears as an Assist Trophy. He digs the ground using his shovel, sometimes pulling up items, and can also dig opponents or fling dirt at them. He also uses his Shovel Drop ability to hop on opponents. He can also be KO'd to earn a point.

- Shovel Knight is the first Assist Trophy to come from an indie developer.
- Shovel Knight is the second character to appear in Smash that originates from an indie developer, the first being CommanderVideo from BIT.TRIP.
- The two characters also appear alongside each other in Indie Pogo, Runbow and Mutant Mudds Super Challenge.
- Shovel Knight's Shovel Drop attack was inspired by Link's downward thrust from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link; both characters use these attacks in Smash.
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Shovel Knight's 5th appearance in 3D, after his cameo in fellow indie titles Road Redemption, Yooka-Laylee, Runner3, and Blade Strangers.
- In addition to his appearance in Smash, Shovel Knight appears as a playable character in other platform fighter games: Rivals of Aether and Brawlhalla as a guest character, and one of the many indie characters in Indie Pogo.
- While not actually in the game, Shovel Knight is referenced in Yooka-Laylee's trailer in Brawlout, another platform fighter.
- Though not a platform fighter game, Shovel Knight was a playable fighter in another crossover fighting game, Blade Strangers, also released for the Nintendo Switch in the same year as Ultimate.
- In the Nintendo Direct that revealed Shovel Knight, he digs up a chicken. This is a reference to his own game, in which he can dig up dirt piles to sometimes find gems and food, which restores Shovel Knight's health.
