Mewtwo's Shadow Ball

Mewtwo releases the Shadow Ball.

Shadow Ball is Mewtwo's B attack in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Lucario's B attack InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl. It is his second strongest attack, falling only 2% short of his f-smash when that move is sweetspotted. Press B to charge the attack up, and B again to release the attack. Mewtwo can save the charge by pushing the shield button. He can even charge this in the air, and even when it's fully charged he will still continue to 'charge' it until you release it or move. The charge can do damage and trap the enemy inside it. Once fired, the ball will travel in an erratic fashion, which may cause it to miss it's target entirely. A fully charged Shadow Ball does 25% damage, has a great deal of knockback, and it explodes on contact with a surface. The move has a considerable amount of recoil, especially when used in mid-air, so one must be careful not to use it too close to the edge.

Shadow Ball is an attack in the Pokémon games introduced in the second generation. It is a powerful Special Ghost-type move with a chance of lowering the foe's Special Defense. While Mewtwo is not capable of learning it naturally, he can learn it via a Technical Machine. He also uses the attack (or an attack very similar to it) in Pokémon: The First Movie to attack Mew. Mewtwo also uses this attack in the Pokémon movie titled Mewtwo Returns.

Lucario's Aura Sphere is very similar to Mewtwo's Shadow Ball with the difference is that the Aura Sphere grows stronger with the more damage Lucario has.

Trivia

  • Mewtwo is capable of learning Aura Sphere (Mew, being the original, can also learn it) in the current incarnation/generation of Pokémon. Because of this, some may believe that Mewtwo's attack in Pokémon: The First Movie was an early version of Aura Sphere.
