Sandbag is an NPC in the "Home-Run Contest" in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The objective of this mini-game is to hit Sandbag the as far as possible using the Home-run Bat (optional). This is Sandbags only purpose in the game. Being hit all the time doesn't hurt it; it actually loves to see players "wind up and let loose," according to the trophy description. In this Mini-game you have the option of using any Playable Character.

Sandbag will also be making an appearance in the upcoming game Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Sandbag has two appearances in this game in Wi-Fi and the mini-game "Home-Run Contest". In the Wi-fi portion of the game Sandbag is basically a loading screen. You can hit around Sandbag while you are waiting for people to join an online brawl with you. In the Home-Run Contest in Brawl you still have to hit Sandbag as far away as you can, but now there are many more ways to do so. First of all now you have to use the Home run Bat because there is a shield around the platform so you don't accidentally knock off Sandbag. Now you can play multiplayer Home-Run Contest so you can have double the fun with a friend. You can play alternating or helping each other out trying to get Sandbag the farthest. And now you can even play online, by Wi-Fi with a friend. Sandbag also seems to appear during normal brawl matches the same way items do according to the 1/24/08 video update.

Sandbag (サンドバッグくん, Sandobaggu-kun) is the character that appears in the Stadium game "Home Run Contest" in both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In this mode, he stands perfectly still, so the player can hit him. Although he cannot be controlled by a player through normal means, he can if you have an Action Replay. He is simply programmed not to move in Home Run Contest. However, even though he is able to move and jump, he cannot attack. Instead, an attempt to attack causes the game to freeze along with additional undesirable effects. Sandbag is also strange because he cannot be KO'd. This is because in Home Run Contest, the only stage he is meant to be played on is the Home Run Contest stage, where if he was KO'd, the mini-game would not be playable. Instead, he continues moving in the direction he was sent moving, and can be seen by changing the camera angle. Sandbag's cute appearance and comical role in the series has gained him something of a fanbase.

Sandbag's trophy can be obtained by completing the Home-Run Contest with all characters(Sheik or Zelda, Samus or ZSS, any Pokemon from Pokemon Trainer). If you watch the video of Lucas in Home-Run Contest that comes with Brawl, you can get some well-needed pointers if you are having problems getting this.
