This article is about Ridley's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. For other uses, see Ridley.
Joining the battle from the storied Metroid series, Ridley's long tail and sharp claws let him unleash a torrent of devastating attacks. His Final Smash is a powerful stream of plasma breath intense enough to bring down Samus's starship.
—Description from the Super Smash Blog.

Ridley is a newcomer fighter from the Metroid universe who makes his first playable appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. To date, he is the largest Smash Bros. fighter in Smash Bros. history to be an eligible fighter, although his size was reduced compared to his original appearance to fit with other fighters.

Attributes

Strengths

  • Above average stats makes Ridley effective in overpowering, outmaneuvering or outlasting his opponents.
  • Impressive aerial movement despite being a tank.
  • Many close combat attacks have excellent range; mostly due to Ridley's long tail.

Weaknesses

  • Despite his speed, Ridley's large hitbox makes him a large target for enemy attacks
  • Dependent on precision: as his tail attacks are pathetic if they don't hit their Sweetspots.

Summary

Moveset

  • All of Ridley's tail attacks have a Sweet spot at the tip.

Ground Attacks

Normal

  • Neutral Attack: Swipes with his left claw, then with his right, then swings his head right to bite his opponent. Alternatively, it can continue into a rapid jab where he continuously stabs his tail into the opponent
  • Forward Tilt: Grabs his tail and stabs with it like a pike. Can be angled. Deals 10% on tail sourspot, 13% on spear sweetspot.
  • Up Tilt: Swings his right wing upward. Ends quick enough to combo into itself. Deals about 6% damage.
  • Down Tilt: Turns around and swings his tail along the ground. Deals 5.1% damage.
  • Dash Attack: Leans forward and quickly bites. Deals 12% damage.

Smash Attacks

  • Forward Smash: Unleashes a short-range fire blast. Deals 21% base damage.
  • Up Smash: Flips upward, kicking with his legs. Deals 17% base damage.
  • Down Smash: Jumps into the air, stretches his wings out, and slams them onto the ground when he lands. Deals 17% base damage.

Other attacks

  • Floor Attack (Front):
  • Floor Attack (Back): Thrusts his tail Back them forward whilst getting up.
  • Floor Attack (Trip):
  • Ledge Attack: Swipes low to the ground with his left claw.

Aerial Attacks

  • Neutral aerial: Spins his entire body around similar to a backwards Charizard (SSBU) N-air. Active for the majority of the animation and has a number of damage values similar to Bowser (SSBU) N-air.
  • Forward aerial: Jabs his tail forward multiple times. Does 2.7% damage for each jab.
  • Back aerial: Does a backward roundhouse kick with his left leg. Deals 15% damage
  • Up aerial: Shrugs his wings upward while closed. Deals 12% damage.
  • Down aerial: A stall-then-fall stomp with both feet. Deals about 13% damage on spike hitbox.

Grabs and Throws

  • Pummel: Stabs his tail into opponent. Deals about 1.4% damage.
  • Forward Throw: Ridley simply tosses his foe forward. Deals 9.5% damage.
  • Back Throw: An under-handed toss backwards. Deals 11.5% damage. Rdiley's go-to kill throw.
  • Up Throw: Rdiley throws his foe up and stabs them with his tail. Deals 12.5% damage. Most powerful of Ridley's throws.
  • Down Throw: Ridley slams his opponent downward. Generic combo throw. Deals about 7% damage.

Special Moves

  • Standard Special: Breathes a fireball out of his mouth. The fireball bounces and travels a great range. Can be charged to unleash a constant stream of fireballs, but if Ridley is attacked while charging, the fireball will damage him instead. Does 4.8% damage when uncharged, and 25.5% when charged if the opponent is hit by every fireball.
  • Side Special: Jumps forward and grabs an opponent. He then slams them into the ground before dragging them on the stage floor and finally throwing them. Can be charged and canceled. When done in the air, it sends Ridley and the opponent plummeting down. Does 29% damage after some charging and is a command grab.
  • Up Special: Flies in a certain direction, which is controlled by tilting the control stick. Opponents caught in the flight path will take damage, and Ridley can also slam into the ground, dealing minor knockback. Delivers the greatest amount of damage and knockback during the initial hit of the move. Deals 18% on the aforementioned sweetspot and 16% on some of the later hitboxes.
  • Down Special: Jabs opponents with the tip of his tail. Does 5% damage normally, but when it sweet spots the opponent, it deals 46.3% and leaves the opponents lying on the ground defenseless, similar to Focus Attack.
  • Final Smash: Flies forward toward his opponents. Any opponents hit will be sent flying onto Samus' Gunship in space, and Ridley will fly up before breathing a massive stream of fire at them, destroying the gunship. Does 45% damage.

  • Ridley flips and flexes quickly, demonstrating his acrobatics.
  • Ridley stands up straight while giving a sadistic smirk.
