Summary

Moveset

Ground Attacks

Normal

  • Neutral Attack: Two strikes with the whip coiled followed by a flurry of whip strikes and an upward finisher. Richter holds the whip lengthwise with both hands.
    • If the button is held, Richter will perform the whip twirl. It is freely controllable and is able to destroy weak projectiles, such as Metal Blade and Missile. Functions similarly to Sheik's old Chain. Taken from Simon in Super Castlevania IV.
  • Forward Tilt: A swing with very long range but notable startup lag. Based on the iconic whip strike introduced in the first Castlevania.
  • Up Tilt: A quick swing that covers Richter's head.
  • Down Tilt: A combination of Slide and Jumping Slide. One of his moves from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night that Simon borrowed.
  • Dash Attack: Richter charges forward, spinning his whip around him. One of his moves from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night that Simon borrowed.

Smash Attacks

  • Forward Smash: A whip crack. Outranges Corrin's Forward Smash, making it the longest uncharged forward smash in the entire game.
  • Up Smash: A vertical whip attack.
  • Down Smash: Richter spins his whip around his body, with great range on both sides.

Other attacks

  • Floor Attack (Front):
  • Floor Attack (Back):
  • Floor Attack (Trip):
  • Ledge Attack:

Aerial Attacks

  • Neutral aerial: A whip twirl around Richter's body.
  • Forward aerial: Forward whip swing. This can be angled slightly upward and downward at roughly a 20 degree angle.
  • Back aerial: Backward whip swing.
  • Up aerial: Upward whip swing.
  • Down aerial: A divekick, similar to the ones performed by most protagonists upon obtaining the ability to double jump. Simon and Richter obtained this ability in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. It appears to Meteor Smash in its earlier frames.

  • Down Taunt: Tightens his glove while saying, "Prepare yourself!"

Trivia

  • Richter shares his voice actor David Vincent with the male version of Robin.
    • The two even share a taunt quote, "Prepare yourself!"
  • "You don't belong in this world, monster!" in the Vampire Killer trailer is a direct reference to his famous line from Symphony of the Night, "Die, monster! You don't belong in this world!" The line itself is from from the original Playstation version's English dub, spoken toward Dracula in the game's opening, and is famous for being one example of the original game's poor but nonetheless fondly remembered English voice acting.
  • Richter's red palette swap seems to be a reference to the nameless, red-clad rival vampire hunter from a cancelled Sega 32X Castlevania game, commonly referred to by fans as Castlevania: The Bloodletting.
  • Richter's render is based on the boxart for Rondo of Blood, modified to face forward rather than straight up.
  • It is possible to unlock Richter before facing Simon without playing World of Light. By unlocking characters in VS Mode, Simon is the 18th character to be unlocked. However, Young Link is the 8th character to be unlocked. Although Simon and Richter are unlocked on Link's Classic route, so does Young Link. While Simon is unlocked in Classic before Young Link by playing Classic, Richter can be unlocked directly after, so the player can play VS Matches until Young Link is unlocked, and then they can clear Classic as him to unlock Richter that way.
