Rayquaza (レックウザ, Rekkūza) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Creature description

Rayquaza is a Legendary Pokémon who first appeared in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and, most prominently, Emerald, where it was featured as the cover Pokémon. It is the second-highest level wild Pokémon in the games, appearing at level 70.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Rayquaza's voice is from the anime movie, Destiny Deoxys, like other Pokémon in the Smash Bros. series.

Role In The Subspace Emissary

In the Subspace Emissary, Rayquaza first appears in the jungle after Diddy Kong goes to investigate a crashed Arwing. It bursts out of the water and destroys the Arwing with Dragon Pulse, then grabs Diddy. Before it can retreat in the water, Fox McCloud comes out and attacks Rayquaza, causing it to lose its grip on Diddy Kong. Rayquaza attacks Fox with Dragon Pulse again, but Fox reflects the attack back at Rayquaza, sending it tumbling back into the water. Both Diddy and Fox face off against Rayquaza.

Attacks

Rayquaza can attack by burrowing underground, then bursting back out from underneath the player. It also blasts Energy Ball from its mouth, either at an angle or straight along the ground (both can be reflected). It also attacks by using Iron Tail, which involves spinning and whipping the player with its long tail. When Rayquaza's eyes glow, it causes damage towards the middle of its body, and a blast of fire around the player. If Rayquaza begins to fly in circles rapidly, it is about to unleash thunderbolts from the sky. If Rayquaza simply flies up, then it will use Extremespeed to dash back and forth across the screen.

Trivia

In the Pokémon series, Rayquaza is the master of the skies. Kygore and Groudon are the masters of sea and land respectively. In the Rayquaza battle it is seen flying, swimming and burrowing into the ground.
