The Pyrosphere is a stage that appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. It's based on the location with the same name from Metroid: Other M.

Overview[]

The main body of the Pyrosphere stage is fairly long aerial platform with a metallic surface. Above it, float four platforms, arranged in a parallelogram shape. These platforms are also metallic, with a strip of green along the side. In the background, there is a flow of lava. In the stage's Final Destination form, there is no lava.

Occasionally FG II-Grahams, Joulions and Zeros appear on the stage the FG II-Graham will float around stage if attacked they stop and fire a straight shot which can damage characters.

The Joulion will also float around the stage just like the FG II-Graham and if attacked they will inflate and explode.

The Zero will crawl around the stage they can be picked up and thrown at characters but they are carried just like the Crate.

Ridley[]

Pyrosphere Boss

After many rumors, Ridley was confirmed to be a stage boss with the unique feature of becoming an NPC under certain conditions. When Ridley is spawned in, he can be attacked and will go on the players side once he has been attacked enough. Ridley will become Meta Ridley if attacked enough, and if attacked too much, he will be defeated. Once Ridley is defeated in a time battle, it will count as a point for the player that dealt the final blow, even if it was the player who he was fighting for.

Origin[]

Pyrosphere is a significant area in Metroid: Other M. The stage in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is based on the area of Pyrosphere, named the Geothermal Power Plant, that Samus Aran would encounter and battle Ridley. This area's appearance in Other M is mostly the same as it is in Smash 4; the bridge that Ridley burns down, the magma-eruption port that Samus destroys to light the area, and the hole in the wall that Ridley creates while escaping are all in their post-battle state in Smash 4, though the hole has been moved slightly to the right and there is another hole to the right of the door for unknown reasons. Also, the four floating platforms of the stage are not present in Other M.

Trivia[]

  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the second fighting game to feature the Pyrosphere as a stage. Because Team Ninja helped develop Other M, they were able to include a Pyrosphere stage in Dead or Alive Dimensions using the name "Geothermal Power Plant". It resembled the Super Smash Bros. stage, but lacked the floating platforms and featured Samus and Ridley as stage hazards.
    • Consequently, Pyrophere is also one of four stages in the Super Smash Bros. series to be featured as a stage in fighting games outside of the Super Smash Bros. series, the others being Boxing Ring, Suzaku Castle, and Green Hill Zone.
  • Ridley will not appear during 8-Player Smash battles.
  • It is one of five stages from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U not to return in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the others being Orbital Gate Assault, Woolly World, Jungle Hijinxs and Miiverse. In Pyrosphere's case, it is most likely due to Ridley being a playable character, although he could’ve easily been replaced by one of his alternate forms.
