The Power of Flight (飛翔の奇跡 Hishō no Kiseki) is Pit's and Dark Pit's Up Special Move in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and Ultimate. For Pit, this replaces the Wings of Icarus from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The character will propel themselves in the air at a straight trajectory.
Overview[]
While Power of Flight is much more restrictive than Wings of Icarus, it still gains tremendous distance, with Pit being able to reach the ledge of Battlefield from below the lower end of the screen. The angle of flight can also be changed, giving the characters a significant horizontal recovery as well. However, the characters may fly over the ledge if it is not sweetspotted, and the tremendous vertical distance gained may leave the characters helpless in the air and open to attack. This openness to attack is further compounded by Power of Flight's lack of offensive hitboxes.

Custom Variations[]
Through customizations, Power of Flight can become Striking Flight or Breezy Flight.
Striking Flight[]
Striking Flight is a takeoff that launches opponents. It's more restricted in direction than Power of Flight.
Strengths:
- Deals damage
Weaknesses:
- Only damages at takeoff
- Less influence
Striking Flight is more restrictive in movement than the default up special, only being able to move at steeper upward angles. The move deals damage, unlike the default, but the hitboxes are only active during takeoff, meaning trying to use it as an attack can leave Pit/Dark Pit vulnerable to attack while they are left helpless. The move can function as a good combo finisher though.
Breezy Flight[]
Breezy Flight is a speedy ascent that causes a gale, pushing back opponents in the vicinity.
Strengths:
- Pushboxes
Weaknesses:
- Less recovery height
Breezy Flight is an odd move; it has pushboxes that can be useful for edge-guarding against recovering opponents but sacrifices Pit/Dark Pit's own recovery height in order to do so.

Origin[]
Power of Flight is an ability that originated from Kid Icarus: Uprising. Due to Pit's inability to fly, he was granted this power in order to reach certain destinations otherwise inaccessible, such as the Underworld. However, Pit can only use this power for five minutes at a time; should Pit exceed that limit, his wings will burn up (which had occurred once in the game). Palutena initially granted Pit the Power of Flight for the first part of the game, but later Pit received the power from Viridi due to Palutena being incapacitated during the Chaos Kin arc.
Due to Dark Pit absorbing Pandora's power, he can fly freely without the Power of Flight, though after Pandora was reborn he was unable to do so. At the end of the game, due to Pit receiving the Power of Flight from Viridi, Palutena granted it to Dark Pit.
Trivia[]
- Pit's wings in Power of Flight glow blue, as they were granted to him by Palutena. However, Dark Pit's wings glow green, suggesting that Viridi is the one granting him the Power of Flight instead of Palutena.
