Pikmin Pluck (ピクミンひっこ抜き Pikumin Hikkonuki) is Captain Olimar's Standard Special Move, and is often viewed as his most important move. Olimar quickly pulls a Pikmin out of the ground, which are used in most of his other attacks.

Overview[]

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Olimar can pull five types of Pikmin: red, yellow, blue, purple and white. The kind of ground where this move is used has some influence on what type will be pulled out most often. Olimar can have up to 6 Pikmin following him. By rapidly pressing B, Olimar will yank these critters out with surprising speed, allowing him to pluck them whenever he land without too much fear of being punished. Olimar will fail to pull anything up while he has 6 Pikmin out.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Olimar can only have three Pikmin following him, and they are always pulled in a fixed order: red, yellow, blue, white, purple, and back to red again.

Special care should be taken to not use Pikmin Pluck when on the very edge of a stage facing in, as this will result in all Pikmin plucked tumbling off the ledge to their deaths, unless one uses Pikmin Order shortly afterward (there is a brief period of unresponsiveness from Pikmin after they are plucked, which ends when they touch the floor or after they drop below it) to call them back to Olimar. Also, careless throwing of Pikmin at airborne opponents off the cliff will result in the death of any Pikmin that miss the mark (again, unless you call them back immediately).

Custom Variations[]

In Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, Pikmin Pluck can be customized into Hardy Pikmin Pluck or Explosive Pluck.

Hardy Pikmin Pluck[]

Hardy Pikmin Pluck will pluck Pikmin that have more durability and don't die as easily, but takes longer to do.

Explosive Pluck[]

Explosive Pluck will cause a small explosion when a Pikmin is plucked, but the Pikmin will be less resilient.

Origin[]

In Pikmin and Pikmin 2, after sowing the Pikmin Seeds, Olimar would be able to pick them immediately, or wait for their flowers to bloom to have Pikmin that were stronger and faster than leafed Pikmin. This ability is reflected in Super Smash Brothers Brawl by a certain function where Pikmin that have been with Olimar longer change the vegetation on their stem. It is possible to determine how long Olimar has had a given Pikmin by the vegetation on its head; a leaf signifies a new to fairly new Pikmin, a bud shows that a Pikmin has been with Olimar for some time, and a flower on a Pikmin's head means that it has been with Olimar for a long while.

Tips[]

  • If Pikmin Pluck is used near a ledge (One that results in a death), only White and Purple Pikmin will land on the stage - while the Red, Blue, and Yellow Pikmin fall to their doom. Good if one is wanting those two colors only. If you get slightly closer to the ledge than that, only White Pikmin will survive - though if you go too far, all of the Pikmin will die.
  • A continuous stream of plucked Pikmin can be used to "fill up" Cook Kirby's pot, creating huge numbers of items. Not only is this practice barbaric and shameful on the part of Olimar, but it's useful for Team Brawls. Also, if Captain Olimar is facing Kirby's final smash, he can stop himself from being pulled in through this tactic - so once the pot contains the maximum of 25 objects, the Final Smash will result in Pikmin Stew and Olimar will remain unharmed.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only move that Kirby is unable to copy perfectly. Instead, Kirby combines Pikmin Pluck with Pikmin Throw. The Pikmin that Kirby creates are chucked forward, where they (hopefully) collide with opponents, do damage based on color (Red 1%, Yellow 2%, Blue 3%, Purple 4%, White 5%), and die immediately after landing.
