Melee Multi-Man

Multi-Man mode is a single-player mode which appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee (as Multi-Man Melee), Super Smash Bros. Brawl (as Multi-Man Brawl) and in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U (as Multi-Man Smash). Both challenge the player to defeat as many opponents as possible, under various pretenses, before falling from the stage or self-destructing, themselves. The opponents vary between both games, where Melee challenges the player to defeat Fighting Wire Frames and Brawl challenges the player to defeat Fighting Alloys. In Brawl, it is possible to play Multi-Man Brawls with up to two players with or without Wi-Fi Connection. In Wii U/3DS, players fight Miis which are taken from their console.

List of Multi-Man modes

  • 10-Man mode, which challenges the player to defeat ten opponents. This is the shortest of all Multi-Man Melees and Multi-Man Brawls, usually taking between 10 and 20 seconds to complete for an amateur player, though world records are all within roughly 6 and 7 seconds.
  • 100-Man mode, which challenges the player to defeat one hundred opponents. This usually takes a few minutes for players to clear, and can get quite difficult on higher difficulties. Clearing 100-Man Melee will challenge the player to defeat Falco Lombardi, where victory will result in unlocking the character. (Note: The trophies and stickers are only gotten if you win against Falco) There are four challenges that relate to 100-Man Brawl. Clearing 100-Man Melee in under 4 minutes gives you the Male Wire Frame trophy. Clearing 100-Man Brawl in under 3 minutes and 30 seconds gives you the Ryuta Ippongi sticker. Clearing 100-Man Brawl in under 4 minutes gives you the Multi-Man Melee 1 (Melee) CD. Clearing 100-Man Brawl with all characters grants you the Blue Alloy trophy. Clearing 100-Man Brawl with any character gives you the Pitfall trophy. At the beginning of the match, two to three opponents spawn and they will gradually increase to between four and five. However they are at a very low level, that of a level 1 Computer Player. There will be a short pause after defeating the first 25. After 25 opponents are defeated, the amount at which they spawn will reset, but will gradually increase again. They are aggressive and slightly more dangerous than the first 25 foes. After 50 opponents are defeated, the amount at which they spawn will reach a maximum of between four and five. Most will constantly approach the player, while some may spread out among the stage. This checkpoint is where most players begin to encounter challenges. At some point after 90 opponents are defeated, there will be a small pause during the last few foes to acknowledge that the match is nearing its end. Nevertheless, the last few opponents will shield dodge and use Smash Attacks much more often. Right before the Final Challenger, there is one last pause to prepare yourself. After the short pause following the defeat of 99 opponents, the final foe will spawn. It is much heavier than any of the previous foes, and as a result, is slightly harder to defeat. In Brawl, the last foe is your own character (always player one if you are playing co-op).
  • 3-Minute mode, which challenges the player to defeat as many opponents as possible within 3 minutes.
  • 15-Minute mode, which challenges the player to defeat as many opponents as possible within 15 minutes. This is arguably one of the more difficult Multi-Man Melees and Brawls, though simple strategies such as spamming a certain move or evading the opponents altogether will suffice. Clearing 15-Minute Melee will result in unlocking the Kongo Jungle stage, which originally appeared in Super Smash Bros., while clearing 15-Minute Brawl unlocks the Green Alloy Trophy. This mode was removed in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U.
  • Rival mode, which challenges the player to defeat more opponents than their rival, a clone of the player's character. The score will be determined by reducing the player's score by the number of opponents defeated by the rival. This mode is exclusive to Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U.
  • Endless mode, which challenges the player to defeat as many opponents as possible before being knocked out themselves. It has no time limit, nor does it have a knock-out limit, unlike other Multi-Man Melees and Multi-Man Brawls, and as such can go on for an infinite amount of time. Defeating 50 and 100 enemies in Endless Brawl unlock the Mach Rider (Melee) CD and the Yellow Alloy Trophy respectively.
  • Cruel mode, which challenges the player to defeat as many opponents, with high handicaps and increased aggressiveness, as possible before being knocked out themselves. It is unarguably the most challenging Multi-Man Melees or Brawl, as the opponents faced are immensely harder than those who appear in the other modes. Defeating five opponents in Cruel Melee will result in unlocking the Mr. Resetti trophy. Defeating five opponents in Cruel Brawl will result in unlocking a trophy depicting the Red Alloy. Lastly, defeating ten opponents in Cruel Brawl will result in unlocking a sticker depicting Liquid Snake.

Trivia

  • In all the Multi-Man modes, there are more than 4 characters playing at a time. This was unobtainable legitimately until Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
  • During Multi-Man Brawl, whenever the KO count is two or one lower than a multiple of 25 (i.e. 25, 50, 75, etc...), a normal character is spawned instead of an Alloy.
  • In Multi-Man Brawl, each Alloy uses the same moveset as other Brawl characters. Red is Captain Falcon. Green is Kirby. Blue Alloys are Zelda. Yellow is Mario.
