Minecraft is a series of sandbox survival video games created by Markus "Notch" Persson, developed by Mojang Studios, and published by Microsoft.
In the games, players explore an infinite, blocky, procedurally-generated 3D world. The main game is split into two modes: Survival (where players must scavenge for resources to build homes, cook food, and battle enemies at night) and Create (where players have an infinite amount of resources to make buildings, sculptures, large mosaics, and even songs).
Minecraft has received widespread critical acclaim, often cited as one of the most influential video games of all time. Its large popularity has created a consistently large fanbase with artists and multiple Internet personalities and an annual MineCon convention. The property has also spawned a series of spin-offs, including Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Dungeons, and Minecraft Earth, as well as several tie-in merchandises and an upcoming theatrical film adaptation.
