This article is about Link's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. For other uses, see Link.
Link has been redesigned to match his appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. He can now pick up arrows he's fired, and his bombs have been upgraded to remote bombs, so you can set them off when the timing is just right!
—Description from the Super Smash Blog.

Link (リンク) is a veteran fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, first playable in Super Smash Bros. He was confirmed in the game's first teaser trailer in March of 2018.

Attributes

Strengths

  • Heavy weight gives him good survivability.
  • Plethora of projectiles and long reach with sword give him lots of zoning and spacing options.
  • Disjointed hitboxes on most attacks give him high priority.
  • High launch power on many attacks.
  • Hylian Shield blocks most enemy projectiles when standing idle, crouching, and walking.
  • Down tilt and down aerial can meteor smash.
  • Arrows from Hero's Bow can now be picked up as items, making them more versatile in use and double arrows inflict increased damage and knockback.
  • Boomerang can be thrown at several angles and can be used as a zoning tool as well as a combo tool.
  • Remote Bombs are excellent tools for stage control, combos, zoning, camping, and edge-guarding, and can also assist Link in recovering.

Weaknesses

  • Below average recovery, relies on bombs to effectively recover when at higher percentages.
  • Remote Bombs cannot be detonated when picked up by enemies, and the explosion can hurt Link if he is not careful.
  • Considerable lag on most kill moves.
  • High falling speed hinders recovery.
  • Average run speed causes him to fall behind faster characters.

Summary

Changes from SSBWU/3DS

Link received several changes in the transition to Ultimate. All of his melee attacks have increased range due to the Master Sword's range matching that of other sword fighters. Link's Special Moves were also reworked significantly to match its appearance in Breath of the Wild, most notably Remote Bomb, which serves as an integral part of Link's zoning game.

Aesthetically, Link's design is based off his appearance in The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, with his move-set being changed to match its appearance in the game. Link also possesses an alternate costume based off the Hero of the Wild armor set from the same game, which resembles his more traditional appearance in previous Legend of Zelda games. Link is now voiced by Kengo Takanashi, who reprises his role from Breath of the Wild.

Attributes

Ground Attacks

  • The third hit of Neutral Attack is an outward slash as opposed to a stab.
  • When at 0%, he can fire a projectile beam from his sword when using his forward smash.
  • Up tilt now starts from behind and ends in front

Aerial Attacks

  • Forward air's hits connect more reliably now.

Grabs and Throws

  • Link uses a standard grab in place of the Clawshot when grabbing, increasing its speed but eliminating its usage as a tether recovery

Special Attacks

  • Bow and Arrows replaces Hero's Bow, where the arrows fired will linger when connecting to the ground, where it can be picked up as an item, or can be used by Link to subsequently fire two arrows, increasing damage and knockback.
  • Boomerang replaces Gale Boomerang, where it functions like it did pre-Brawl without a windbox on return.
  • Remote Bomb replaces Bomb, in which the projectile Link summons bounces on opponents when connecting, and can be remotely detonated or triggered by fire attacks, otherwise it'll linger for roughly thirty seconds. However, only one Remote Bomb can be summoned at a time.
  • Ancient Bow and Arrow replaces Triforce Slash, in which Link uses the Ancient Bow to fire an Ancient Arrow in front of him in a similar fashion to Light Arrow.
