“ | Repeatedly attack diagonally with slashing blows. Hold down the button to charge up power, but be aware that the charge can't be held. | ” |
—Description from Ultimate's Move List. |
Lightning Buster is Mythra's neutral special move.
Overview[]
This attack involves Mythra slicing with the Aegis directly in front of her multiple times in rapid succession (with the exception of the first slash, as it can hit behind her as well). The move is chargeable; if fully charged, its reach is extended and its power is increased. However, much like Flame Nova the charge cannot be cancelled or held and Mythra must commit to its execution.
The move can also inflict damage during the charge; as Mythra is holding the Aegis directly above her, the blade will have an active hitbox and hit the opponent multiple times. Much like Straight Lunge, the direction Mythra faces can be changed immediately after the charge.
Origin[]
Lightning Buster is Mythra's Level III Blade Special in Xenoblade Chronicles 2; the in-game description describes the move as "Slice an enemy multiple times with a blade of light". Its depiction in Smash is a near exact recreation from the original game, though its speed is dramatically increased. It notably lacks the move's ability to break an opponent's defenses (most likely for balance reasons), something it was capable of doing to enemies in the original game.
