The L Button refers to the large, grey button on the top left corner of the GameCube, Classic, and Nintendo 64 controllers. It is used in SSBM for defense techniques, such as shielding, rolling, and sidestep dodging. It is used in SSB to taunt. Its purpose in SSBB is to shield.
