Kraid is a boss that appears in the Metroid series. Kraid is a massive, high-ranked Space Pirate with three eyes and the ability to generate and fire spikes from his stomach and fingers. He usually appears alongside Ridley. He appeared as a boss in the original Metroid, it's remake Metroid: Zero Mission and Super Metroid, where he guards the Varia Suit. The only way to defeat him in his Super Metroid and Metroid: Zero Mission incarnations is to fire a Missile, a Super Missile or a Charged Shot at his eyes, then proceeding to fire at his open mouth.

In SSBM

Kraid can be seen in the Brinstar Depths stage. He appears in the background rising from the acid every 15 seconds. After one big roar, he roars menacingly, and then slashes at the stage, which causes it to tilt. Since he is a background character, he cannot be hurt and can't hurt the player either. He also appears as a trophy. Kraid is much taller here than he is on any Metroid game.

In SSBB

Kraid appears as a sticker in SSBB. He raises head attacks by 33 and can be used by all.

Trivia

• While Kraid was as tall as Samus on Metroid, his size on Metroid: Zero Mission disproves the theory that he grew in size between the events of Metroid and Super Metroid.
• On SSBM, his eyes are yellow rather than red.
• Kraid shares traits with the once civilized population of the planet Bryyo, suggesting he may be a highly mutated member of the species.
• He was planned for appearing as a boss in Metroid Prime, in the Phazon Mines. However, he wasn't considered important enough to the series when it was noticed his development would delay the release of the game.
