This page is about Jigglypuff's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee. For other uses, see Jigglypuff.

Jigglypuff (プリン, Purin in original Japanese language versions) is an unlockable character in both Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee, unlocked in Super Smash Bros. Melee by completing Classic/Adventure mode on any difficulty/stock or by playing 50 vs. matches. In SSB, Jigglypuff is unlocked by beating 1P mode on any difficulty with any character, and with any number of stock. From the Pokémon series, this puffball is a force to be reckoned with.

Techniques

  • Wall of Pain: Repeatedly using front or back air on an opponent, sometimes even off the stage.
  • Pillow Rest: On any breakable surface(Blocks in Yoshi's Island, Green Greens, and Mushroom Kingdom.) Down throw an opponent and right after the throw breaks the block, the throw is interrupted and both characters fall. Rest right after the block breaks and it will almost always hit the opponent.

Recovery

Jigglypuff is famous for its very long recovery. With Pound, five mid-air jumps and an air dodge, Jigglypuff has many resources with which it can recover. It can use Rising Pound repeatedly to move any length horizontally without losing height, and by using Rising Pound in between each mid-air jump, Jigglypuff can also attain the game's highest vertical recovery.

Because of the great length and flexibility of its recovery, Jigglypuff is able to perform feats, such as the reverse Hyrule Jump and traversing the underside of Corneria, that few if any other characters can match.

Pros & Cons

Jigglypuff

Pros

  • Has 5 mid-air jumps
  • Extremely long recovery (especially with the help of Rising Pound)
  • Powerful down B attack
  • Aerial maneuverability allows it to weave in and out to attack (Ex. Wall of Pain)
  • Fantastic edgeguarder
  • Deceptively strong attacks
  • Huge priority
  • Can combo and juggle characters off the screen and still recover
  • Extremely floaty allowing for easy recovery from the side and difficult follow-ups for enemies combos.

Cons

  • Extremely light and floaty, thus especially easy to KO off the top.
  • Slow all around
  • Lacks projectiles
  • Requires strong mastery of Directional Influence
  • Flys very far when its shield is broken, unless there's a ceiling is there to stop it, a KO is almost certain.
  • A missed rest leaves Jigglypuff VERY vulnerable.

Trivia

  • Jigglypuff is one of the three unlockable characters to be shown in the game's introduction. The other two being Ganondorf, whose fist is shown briefly alongside Link and Zelda's hands; and Pichu, who appears near Pikachu right before Jigglypuff appears.
  • Jigglypuff doesn't have to be unlocked first. Mewtwo, Marth, Pichu, Ganondorf, Falco, Luigi, Dr. Mario and Roy can all be unlocked first, due to none of them requiring the player to finish Classic or Adventure (Marth can be unlocked by using all of the starting characters in vs. mode, as well as Classic or Adventure), and meeting the requirements to unlock Luigi, Dr. Mario or Roy will have the player fight him rather than Jigglypuff. In fact, one could theoretically unlock every character except Jigglypuff if they used the "Play X Vs. Matches" technique for each one and intentionally failed whenever challenged by Jigglypuff.
