Origin[]

Grass appears in Super Mario Bros. 2. When grass is pulled, an item will be produced. Usually the item is a vegetable, but sometimes it could yield a magic potion, a stopwatch, a POW Block, a bomb, a turtle shell, or a rocket. In Sub-space, pulling grass rewards the player with coins that can be spent at the end-of-level slot machine.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U[]

The Grass appears as an item and it works like the Capsule, but it works slightly different. Once someone plucks it, the item it contains will instantly appear. If it contains a healing item (e.g. Food) or a power-up item (e.g. Superspicy Curry), the item will automatically be used. Also, it cannot explode, but there is a chance that it contains nothing.

Trophy Description[]

GrassTrophyWiiU

This special grass first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2, where plucking it revealed hidden items. It works exactly the same way in Smash Bros.--if you pluck the grass, maybe you'll find a game-changing object! If only cleaning an unkempt lawn would reveal such neat things...

NES - Super Mario Bros. 2 (10/1988)

Trivia[]

  • This and the Sandbag are the only container item that will never explode and cannot be thrown.
    • However unlike the Sandbag, The Grass cannot be swallowed, making it the only container that cannot be eaten.
  • Unlike its original game, you cannot pull out turnips from the grass.
  • Bayonetta kicks the grass out of the ground then grabs its item, which takes slightly longer than the other characters' pulling animations.
