Gordo is a regular enemy in the Kirby series.

Origin[]

Gordo debuted in Kirby's Dream Land and is notorious for being impervious (usually) to attack. Despite what the Gordo trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl says, they have indeed been known to move, either back and forth along a set line, bouncing on the ground, or orbiting a platform.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

Gordos appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a trophy and a sticker, and they are also used as projectiles occasionally thrown in King Dedede's Side Special Move, Waddle Dee Toss, and his Final Smash, Waddle Dee Army. The Waddle Dee/Waddle Doo/Gordo appears when thrown at a ratio of 35:10:4 (in other words, there is an 8.2% chance of a Gordo appearing). They have very powerful vertical knockback (by far the greatest of the three), they are capable of reliably KOing any character under 100%, even under 75% if not stale from repeated Waddle Dee Tosses. Unlike King Dedede's other minions, a thrown Gordo can be reflected back at the user. A thrown Gordo will bounce once, then disappear the next time it touches the ground. The Gordo is also unique as it behaves like an aerial attack in terms of Priority. As such, a Gordo can collide with opposing hitboxes but cannot be canceled out. If it does come into contact with a hitbox that's within or above the priority range of the Gordo, the Gordo is not canceled out and it will continue along its natural trajectory while going through the opposing character without harming them. The Gordo is the only projectile in the Super Smash Bros. series to have this characteristic.

Trophy Description[]

A creature that sits in one place and doesn't even try to move. They won't even budge if Kirby tries to inhale them - they're the definitive obstacle. In addition, they're covered in spikes so they damage whoever touches them. They're found stopped in groups, blocking narrow passageways, etc. Nothing's harder to get by than an encampament of Gordos.

  • Kirby: Squeak Squad

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[]

It is confirmed that King Dedede's Waddle Dee Toss is now changed to Gordo Toss. This means King Dedede will always throw out these spiky enemies.

Another Gordo also appears in Smash Run as an obstacle character, floating in air as it moves across certain direction back and forth. It can damage players and enemies once its touched.

Trophy Description[]

These little guys from the Kirby series look like metal balls with eyes and eight sharp spikes. They can't be defeated, so don't waste your time. Instead, try pushing your enemies onto them! Watch for two different kinds: one that moves along a set path, and the other stubbornly sits in place.

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

King Dedede can now inhale the Gordos thrown and spit them back out. Attacking Gordo now causes its pupils to shrink.

King Dedede and gordo are also used for the latter's spirit battle, where 3 Dededes( that are invisible) favour Gordo Toss on Green Greens.

Trivia[]

  • If a Gordo hits an opponent's shield at the proper angle, it will continuously travel through the air in a straight path without landing or disappearing until it travels off of the screen. It will not deal any damage, but it will block attacks.
  • The Subspace Army enemy Jyk is very similar to Gordo, as both are obstacles that are harmful to the players when touched, are indestructible, and are either still or move along a fixed path.
  • In spit of what Brawl implies, Gordos can be destroyed in some games.
    • In Kirby: Squeak Squad, Kirby can uses the roulette he gets from the Magic ability (which functions similarly to Command Selection) and stop it on a 1UP, causing any Gordo on screen will turn into a 1UP.
    • In Mass Attack, the boss Freezy Rex can destroy Gordos by touching them and the Kirbys can destroy them using Invincible Candy (akin to using Mario's Super Star)
    • In Return to Dream Land, the final boss, Magolor, in his third form and Soul form conjure and throw Gordos and Big Gordos, which explode when they hit the ground.
    • In the same game, some Gordos can be knocked off the stage by a Super Ability (like Ultra Sword), but not necessarily destroyed.
  • In Star Allies, Gordos can be destroyed by getting crushed.
  • The Mario enemy Unibo (from Super Mario Land 2) and Sea Urchin from Link's awakening share many similarities with Gordo.
    • In the case of the former, their sprites were nearly identical and both are invincible.
    • In the case of the latter, they only share the same shape, as Link could use his Shiedl to push them away and defeat them with his sword.
