This article is about the rare and powerful item. For the regular hammer, click here, for Kirby's side special move, click here.

The Golden Hammer (ゴルデンハンマー, goruden hanmā) is an item in SSBB. It acts similarly to a regular Hammer, but improved in every way. It is more powerful, is swung faster, and can even let the user float in midair. However, it is exceptionally rare. A platform under it spawns first, and then it will spawn the Golden Hammer with a very distinct sound effect. Also, like the Hammer's Headless Hammer, the Golden Hammer can become the Golden Squeaky Hammer.

The item originated in the game Wrecking Crew.

Golden Squeaky Hammer

Squeak

Wario remains completely unaffected by the Golden Squeaky Hammer.

The Golden Squeaky Hammer is an item in SSBB. Although indistinguishable from a normal Golden Hammer, it is completely useless in terms of attacking; instead of the usual heavy damage and knockback, it simply squeaks when it strikes a foe, causing no ill effect. This is the Golden Hammer's parallel to the normal Hammer's Headless Hammer. The Golden Squeaky Hammer does however grant the floating abilities of the normal Golden Hammer. Also, when characters are hit by a Golden Hammer within the brief period of invincibility after being respawned, the Golden Hammer will most likely become squeaky. Oddly enough characters with counters like Marth can still counter the attack despite the squeaky hammer not doing any damage.

If Kirby eats a Golden Hammer, he will determine if it was a Squeaky or not. If it was a Golden Squeaky Hammer, it makes a slight squeak sound when he eats it.

Challenges

Unlocking certain challenges will give players access to a limited supply of Golden Hammers to break some of the Challenge boxes. There are five in all to collect. Although some of the challenges can be opened with a Golden Hammer, the Golden Hammer will sometimes be rejected, particularly on some of the more difficult challenges. Any of the Boss Battle challenges cannot be opened with a Golden Hammer, except in the PAL version.

Trophy Description

Golden Hammer Trophy

Golden Hammer Trophy in the Trophy Hoard

The Golden Hammer Trophy is obtained by hitting 45,000 ft. (15,000m PAL) combined distance with all fighter's Home-Run Contest records.

A hammer that glows with golden light. It's easier to swing than a normal hammer, and more powerful too. If you tilt the Control Stick and press the attack button repeatedly, you float in midair. It's a very powerful item, but one that rarely appears. There's also a Golden Squeaky Hammer that does absolutely no damage at all. It's what you would call a fake.

Trivia

  • The music that plays while holding the Golden Hammer can also play on the Mario Bros. Stage.
  • Standing close to an edge with Yoshi and using his neutral-B Egg Lay when an opponent gets close with a Golden Hammer results in an easy K.O.
  • Pick the Ice Climbers in Training mode, spawn two Golden Hammers or Hammers and pick them both up at the same time. If timed correctly, it is possible to hit the opponent in such a way that they will be trapped, and the barrage will easily rack up 999% damage.
  • Repeatedly tapping A while in the air with a Golden Hammer will result in the player being able to hover in a Peach-like fashion.
  • Like its non-gold counterpart, the Golden Hammer can be countered by Lucario's Double Team, Marth and Ike's Counters, and Kirby's Stone attack.
  • The Golden Hammer gives off horizonal knockback.
