Glire (ガルファイア, Galfire in Japan) is a recurring enemy in the Super Smash Bros. series, first appearing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and returning in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. A Glire has the appearance of an average-sized black tire, divided into three sectors by a red line, and has an eye in the center.

A Glice moves by rolling along floors, walls, and ceilings, although they will fall down if they flinch. When approached by a fighter, a Glire stops moving and opens its three sectors to shoot out fire around it. A Glire's attack hits only once, so shielding it creates a large lag time in which to attack it. Glires are vulnerable to ice-elemental attacks.

Glires have two relatives, Glices and Glunders, associated with the elements of ice and thunder, respectively.

Description
NTSC: This rotating enemy will follow the terrain. The red one is called Glire. Should a fighter come too close, a blast of fire will erupt from Glire, damaging nearby foes. Glire has high stamina compared to Glice and Glunder, but it's very slow. It's especially vulnerable to ice attacks!

PAL: If you get too close to a Glire, it'll stop, open its shell and unleash a fire attack. They deal more damage than Glunders and Glices, but they're also slower. You won't get a lot of stat boosts for defeating one, so just make life easy for yourself and exploit their weakness to ice attacks when you're taking them on.

Trivia

  • Glires are similar to Flamers from the Kirby series as they move around the border of a platform and use fire-based attacks to hurt the player.
  • Lucas, Ness, and Mr. Game & Watch can absorb the fire unleashed from a Glire, similarly to the Fire Flower item.
