Yeah, we can make this a wiki dedicated to, among other things, Brawl Hacks such as Brawl+, Brawl-, and Balanced Brawl. The character pages could be "updated" to talk about their BBrawl/Brawl+ counterparts, including changes from standard Brawl. And that's just one thing. The possibilities are endless! --DJ Spenstar! 21:11, March 28, 2011 (UTC)

Revision as of 14:15, 4 April 2011

Seeing as having two encyclopedia-based Smash Bros. wikis isn't helping anyone, how about we steer this one in a different direction? Maybe turn it into a fanon wiki, or a parody wiki, or something like that. We can then affiliate the two wikis and there'd be no need for them to compete with each other. Toomai Glittershine Data Node 16:30, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

I support turning this to a fanon Wiki of Smash Bros., as there is not a major fanon Wiki to my knowledge, which would give those wishing to create articles on Smashtasm and Super Smash Flash a place to go. This would keep such users from constantly trying to insert fanon into the SmashWiki, and it would get rid of the current conflict that has been present. Both Wikis have more to gain by this Wiki becoming a fanon Wiki. Omega Tyrant (talk) 17:04, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. Miles (talk) 17:05, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

im fine with whatever you guys do, as long as i dont have to switch wikis again--1 -kyle.b 17:11, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

No switching would be done, this would be turned into a Wiki with a different focus. Remember how you wanted to create an article on Super Smash Flash and how you're not allowed to on either Wiki due to it being a fanon series? Well, if this Wiki was turned into a fanon Wiki, you would have a place to create that article with no problems. Omega Tyrant (talk) 17:16, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

ya sorry about that--2 -kyle.b 17:29, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

Support, all of the experienced sysops and contributors are over at the NIWA Smashwiki which is advancing much faster than this wikia not to mention this wiki can barely take care of itself having no real dedicated admins. A change could do this wikia good.--Shaun's Wiji Dodo (talk) 17:31, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

Support could increase activity. --HavocReaper 21:28, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

heckyeah.avi Why have two competing wikis when you can have two complementary wikis? You'd have to get rid of the "www.smashwiki.com" domain though, since presumably this wiki would go through a name change and everyone would then be confused. Mr. Glidder 21:55, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

Yup - The people who want to add fanon and are blocked for it aren't happy about the blockz, so why not just let them do their fanon stuff here. MegaTron1XD:p 03:06, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

I support this--3 -kyle.b 14:54, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

I support the changing the wiki to a fanon wiki but not the affiliation as much. Wikia is evil. 92.28.154.224 21:39, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

No Duh This wikia is just a lonely thing of the past, so it might as well be fanon.-Ivy73002MS 22:46, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

Response From Wikia Staff

Hello all. I'm truly glad to hear you are actively discussing the future of this wiki. Change is an inevitable part of a wiki and expanding or contracting the scope of a wiki is always a good thing to consider and examine. Before you proceed, though, I do need to make you aware of some things.

It is not acceptable to diminish this wiki in favour of a fork. You are welcome to add to content to broaden its scope beyond being just canon, it's not acceptable to remove valid articles. The original purpose of this wiki was canon and users submitted work to this wiki with the expectation that their work wouldn’t be simply deleted because other users feel it doesn’t fit into the new scope of a wiki.

It’s your right, of course, to determine if you want to help maintain the canon. But it is not right to remove canon content in order to (let's be frank here) prevent it competing with a fork. If you want a non-complete non-canon wiki, you are welcome to create one, this wiki is not it.

We have assumed good faith here, but essentially you can not leave a community and come back to completely change it in order to benefit your new situation. It would be the equivalent of leaving the state of New York to live in California but still insisting on voting in New York elections and bonds. --daNASCAT WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 01:15, March 25, 2011 (UTC)

Community based decisions > Going to California. This wiki is community based, not staff based. --HavocReaper 01:41, March 25, 2011 (UTC)
Right now, it's complete consensus to change the Wiki, even from users who have remained here. And on Wikis, consensus rules. If the consensus decides to change this Wiki to a fanon Wiki, that is what will be done.
You seem to believe that the change is only being done to benefit the real SmashWiki, but it's not. It's to benefit this Wiki as well. Right now, this Wiki is outdated, in poor shape, constantly vandalised, essentially edited only by one time IPs and a few users such as myself. It's in the best interest of both Wikis, and more importantly, the readers, for this Wiki to be a fanon Wiki. What good does it do to have an inferior Wiki around that is completely hopeless when it could be change to something different that will bring in editors who wouldn't edit before?
Now for the interest of both Wikis, I advise you don't interrupt this process. Omega Tyrant (talk) 01:48, March 25, 2011 (UTC)
I will also say your analogy is ridiculous and fails. These editors edit here, even if infrequently, and therefore are part of its community, thus in their full right to make decisions here. It's not in your right to say who's a part of the community and who's not. Omega Tyrant (talk) 01:52, March 25, 2011 (UTC)

To be clear on what making this a fanon or parody wiki would entail: Nothing would be removed. Things would be added and changed over time to fit the new format. Basically, it would just be removing the rule that fan content is not allowed. Things would just run their course from there.

Also, please explain what your definition of "community" is, since obviously it differs from what we expect. Toomai Glittershine Data Node 02:30, March 25, 2011 (UTC)

Toomai, your definition of the direction of the wiki sounds correct and reasonable to me. As for community, a wiki community is a group of users whose primary goal in editing the wiki is to make it the greatest resource on the subject possible. Yes, one can certainly edit two wikis and even two wikis on the same subject. But at the end of the day, many of the people in this thread have loyalties very much with another community, a community that would indeed greatly benefit if a similar resource was diminished in some way. So while those who have left are free to share their opinions here, they are not truly a part of this community.
Because inevitably this will now come up, no, I do not claim to be part of this community either. You will note that I am not actively voting, nor have any real intention of giving my opinion about what the future of this wiki should be. I am merely stating that content given and licensed to this wiki is protected from simply being thrown, tossed, or vandalized by former members of the community. Again, Toomai's definition of what a fanon-inclusive site sounds reasonable and in line with what happens on a normal, unforked wiki. --daNASCAT WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 14:14, March 25, 2011 (UTC)
Unless a shred of opposition is observed from somebody who has actually substantially edited this wiki, then community consensus 'HAS been achieved. Mr. Anon (talk) 05:50, March 27, 2011 (UTC)
