Fire Hydrant is Pac-Man's Down Special Move.

Overview[]

Pac-Man puts a hydrant below him which sprouts two bursts of water from left, right or up at three second intervals. Similarly, like F.L.U.D.D, if it hits an opponent, he or she will be pushed away. It can also push Pac-Man. The hydrant can be attacked, and if the attack is powerful enough the hydrant will be launched, dealing considerable damage. If it is used in midair, Pac-Man drops it quickly and damages opponents that are stuck by it. After it fires two bursts from both sides, it will disappear.

Custom Variations[]

Via customizations, it can turn into On-Fire Hydrant and Dire Hydrant.

On-Fire Hydrant[]

On-Fire Hydrant makes the Fire Hydrant spout fire, but the fire can also damage Pac-Man.

Strengths:

  • Edge-guarding
  • Deals damage
  • Fires 3 times instead of 2
  • Easier to launch the hydrant

Weaknesses:

  • The move will also hurt Pac-Man
  • Slight Range

This move, unlike the default, will deal damage and shoot three times instead of two. It also suffers from lack of range; however, it has many uses; edge-guarding, combos, and overall damage. Placing the hydrant on the edge will blast recovering opponents away from the edge. Launching the hydrant will also work; the hydrant is easier to launch as well. This combo can be hard to pull off, but will be effective when used correctly. Place the hydrant on the stage and get just out of range of the fire blasts. If your opponent is nearby, grab them and start pummeling; make sure you are facing the hydrant. The fire blasts will add extra damage to the opponents before the throw; Pac-Man can even throw opponents towards the hydrant to cause them to be caught in the fiery blast as well.

Dire Hydrant[]

Dire Hydrant lets Pac-Man drop a Fire Hydrant straight below that makes a big explosion. It explodes either when it hits the ground or after a set amount of time has elapsed.

Pros:

  • Deals damage
  • Pac-Man can use the move multiple times

Cons:

  • Doesn't stay on-stage
  • Explodes after a touching the ground

The Dire Hydrant has some good uses but they are quite different from the original move. The move deals damage, unlike the default. However, it won't stay on stage since it explodes when it hits the ground. It also explodes after a set distance, so if Pac-Man is too high above an enemy they won't be hit by it. Since it doesn't stay on stage though, Pac-Man doesn't have to launch the hydrant or wait for it to disappear after using it; he can use the move faster, with much shorter times between uses.
