The Fire Flower (ファイアフラワー, Fire Flower) is a shooting item that has appeared in all games of the Super Smash Bros. series. It allows the user to fire a short-ranged burst of fire in front of them.

Overview[]

Upon pressing the attack button, the Fire Flower spews fire in front of the user, and can be a continuous stream by holding the attack button. The Fire Flower can spew fire for a combined seven seconds and inflict up to 44% damage. The Fire Flower can also be thrown at opponents, but it falls at a slow speed. The Fire Flower cannot KO, but it does leave a burning hitbox and hitstun. In Brawl, the Fire Flower gains the ability to be used while walking and jumping.

The Fire Flower is a good damage-racker due to its capacity of hitting multiple times and its ability to be a continuous stream. Due to its additional ability of being used while moving, it can be used to force opponents toward blast lines if they are walk-off. However, the stream of fire has a short range, and it can be reflected and absorbed.

Super Smash Bros. Melee[]

Once you grab this item, press and hold down the A Button to make the flower breathe flames until its power gives out. The Fire Flower is incredibly useful when you want to push someone off the edge of a stage. In Super Mario Bros., it transformed Mario into Fire Mario, changing his garb and enabling him to throw fireballs.

The Fire Flower Trophy

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

A flower that breathes flames when you press and hold the attack button. The flames don't last forever, though--after a while, the flower will lose its fiery power. You can also throw Fire Flowers at enemies to set them on fire for a brief moment. In Super Mario Bros., Fire Flowers were used to transform Mario into Fire Mario.

  • Super Mario Bros. 3 (1990)

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U[]

This Fire Flower won't transform you like in the Mario series, but it will still let you unleash some fiery damage! Holding down the attack button lets you spew fire at your opponents, dealing constant damage to them. You can also throw it at them, but it just doesn't look as cool that way.

Origin[]

The Fire Flower is an item that has appeared in all Mario titles since Super Mario Bros. If absorbed, it transforms Mario into Fire Mario, allowing him to shoot fireballs. The Fire Flower does not actually produce flames, making its ability in Smash Bros. original.

The design of the Fire Flower in Super Smash Bros. is based off of Super Mario Bros. its design in Melee resembling a daisy, which is the type of flower the Fire Flower is in Super Mario Bros., but since then, the design is based on New Super Mario Bros.
