Corkscrew is Wario's Up Special Move. It launches him very slightly into the air, less than a fully charged Wario Waft.

Overview[]

It can do up to 19% damage. While this attack can be used as a third jump, it goes relatively little vertically and horizontally, at a maximum angle of about 45 degrees. It's bad as an attack, as the opponent can DI out of it and punish him. It is similar in knockback and movement to Samus' Screw Attack and Charizard's Fly. It is usually used as a recovery move, along with Wario Waft and the Wario Bike.

When Wario becomes Wario Man, this move's effect is changed. Instead of it being a multi-hit attack, it becomes a two-hit electrical attack (one hit at initiation and another at the end of the attack). The move becomes much stronger with a higher amount of damage given, and a much larger knockback.

Custom Variations[]

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Corkscrew can be customized into Widescrew and Corkscrew Leap.

Widescrew[]

Widescrew has less damage and range, but the angle of ascension can be changed.

Strengths:

  • Can be influenced
  • Greater horizontal distance

Weaknesses:

  • Less damage
  • Less vertical distance

Widescrew is a custom variation for players that want more horizontal movement out of Wario's up special. However, it covers less vertical distance and as a result hits opponents fewer times, making for less damage. It has greater directional influence to the left and right but Wario's Bike already covers horizontal recovery, so Wario's up special may be best reserved for more vertical movement.

Corkscrew Leap[]

Corkscrew Leap takes longer to start up and does not deal any damage, but goes much higher.

Strengths:

  • High vertical distance

Weaknesses:

  • No damage
  • Higher starting lag

Corckscrew Leap is a custom variation better suited for the vertical recovery. It has less horizontal influence and will not deal damage to opponents as well as higher starting lag, but Wario can go deeper off-stage and still recover.

Origin[]

One of Wario's abilities in Wario World was the Corkscrew Conk, where Wario does a Shoulder Charge, then jumps. It gives Wario a horizontal boost to his jumps, and it can be used to attack with as well.

Wario's Corkscrew move in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is very different than his previous one, aside from naming. Wario doesn't have to do a Shoulder Charge to do it, and it can be started in midair. The Brawl version of Corkscrew also has a completely different animation, and gives Wario more of a vertical boost than a horizontal one.
