Sora (ソラ) is the protagonist of Disney and Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts franchise.
He joined Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the sixth fighter in Fighters Pass Volume 2, the twelfth overall downloadable character, and the final newcomer for the game.
Character description[]
Sora is a young teenager hailing from Destiny Islands. He is depicted as brave and heroic with an unwaivering loyalty to his friends, putting them above all else, even his own safety, and believing that his friendships give him the strength to continue and that he would be nothing without them. He is an eternal optimist, always believing in the goodness of others; as a testament to this, he has an incredible capacity to forgive anyone, even his mortal enemies, and always tries to redeem them or convince them to fight on the side of good. He has also been shown to not be above thanking villains for doing some form of a good deed, such as Xehanort's Heartless saving Kairi depite their history.
As he comes from an island with limited denizens, Sora has shown to be a bit dense on certain areas. As such, he is severely technologically illiterate, having been shown to have trouble making or receiving calls or typing slowly on computers. Moreso, he is rather oblivious and naive, at times being easily fooled. When Sora gets confused, he can quickly get annoyed or even enraged, something that leads to immature behavior (though this could still be due to his young age). Sora has also been shown to be rather cocky and arrogant in his abilities, something that can land him in tricky situations due to his overcompensation of what he can do. Nevertheless, he makes up for all of these flaws with his undying loyalty to his old friends and trying to meeting new ones, as well as his unbounded kindness and willingness to help, even if it means doing something far beyond his skill level and understanding. He is also dedicated to his mission to find his friends and defeating the Heartless, forever believing in the power of light and friendship.
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep[]

Sora's first canonical appearance in the story's timeline is when he is born in Birth by Sleep; his newly born heart encounters Ventus' own heart in his own Dive to the Heart Station of Awakening and joins up with it after Ventus' heart is damaged after the creation of Vanitas - the joining of their hearts would prevent any more deterioration and letting Ventus' own to heal slowly, but resulting in Vanitas resembling an older Sora. Four years later, Sora and his best friend Riku meet with the Keyblade Wielders Terra and Aqua, where the latter tells the young Sora to always protect Riku if he ever falls into darkness; despite his confusion, Sora agrees. Later, Sora begins to feel sadness having sensed Ventus' pain from the destruction of Vanitas and the χ-blade. Riku encourages him to reach out with his heart, causing Sora to appear in Ventus' Station of Awakening; Ventus asks Sora if he can stay with him while he sleeps. Sora readily agrees and their hearts merge.
Sometime later, Kairi mysteriously arrives in Destiny Islands from another world and quickly forms a close friendship with the two boys. They also discover a secret cave in the islands that leads into its Keyhole.
Kingdom Hearts[]
Sora, Kairi, and Riku
Sora's proper debut is in the first Kingdom Hearts. At this point in the story, he is now fourteen years of age with aspirations of sailing to other worlds, occupying his time by building the Highwind raft with Riku and Kairi. One day, while Sora is sleeping, he mysteriously enters Dive to the Heart and battles a horde of dark creatures in his subconscious, only to be awakened by Kairi. On another day, while Sora is foraging for materials, he encounters a shadowy figure in the islands' secret cave, who tells him of a world consumed by darkness before disappearing. Later that night, a storm hits Destiny Islands; Sora goes outside to check on the Highwind, only to find the beach overrun with Shadow Heartless. He also finds Riku, who tells him that the door to the outside world has been opened and he is not afraid of the darkness beyond it, only for the two boys to begin sinking into darkness itself; before Sora is fully consumed, he receives the Kingdom Key Keyblade and frees himself with it. Sora fights his way to the secret cave and sees Kairi, but before he can reach her, the Keyhole bursts open and swallows her in it. Sora is blown away and encounters a Darkside Heartless. He battles the creature as Destiny Islands begins to crumble; he prevails but is swept away into the darkness.

Sora falls into the Corridor of Darkness, which takes him into Traverse Town. There he meets with Squall Leonhart and Yuffie Kisaragi (from Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy VII, respectively), who explain to him the Keyblade, the Heartless, and the mysterious being Sora encountered earlier, revealed to be Ansem, Seeker of Darkness. After battling another horde of Heartless, Sora meets with Donald Duck and Goofy where they work together to defeat the Guard Armor Heartless. Donald and Goofy ask Sora to travel to other worlds with them so they can help each other find Riku and Kairi as well as the missing King Mickey Mouse, who ordered Donald and Goofy to "follow the key" which they take to mean to follow a Keyblade Wielder. The three board the Gummi Ship and make their way to other worlds based on various Disney films including Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin, Tarzan, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pinocchio, and The Little Mermaid.
Sora confronts Riku at Hollow Bastion
Midway into the game, Sora, suprisingly and to his relief, finds Riku in Traverse Town; Riku has also been searching for Kairi as well, but takes a great interest in Sora's Keyblade. Before Sora can invite him into the party, he finds that Riku has disappeared again, but still relieved to know that he is okay; unbeknownst to Sora, Riku has allied himself with Maleficent, who is in allegiance with the Heartless and is grooming Riku to be a part of it as well. The two repeatedly cross paths as Sora continues his travels, with Riku slowly becoming more hostile and standoffish the more they reunite; it ultimately culminates in Neverland (from the film Peter Pan), where Riku declares his allegiance to the darkness and has found Kairi, before trapping Sora and his party in the hold of Captain Hook's ship and summoning AntiSora to prevent their escape. Eventually, the trio seal the Keyhole of Neverland and make their way to Hollow Bastion where they find Riku again; there, he reveals that he is the true Keyblade Wielder as Sora's Kingdom Key suddenly appears in his hands. Donald and Goofy reluctantly follow Riku, still under orders to "follow the key", leaving Sora with a wooden sword in the lower levels of the Bastion. After allying with The Beast (from Beauty and the Beast), the two fight their way onto the Entrance Hall, where Sora meets up with Riku again. Donald and Goofy defy Riku to help defend Sora; this in turn strengthens the three's friendship, causing the Keyblade to switch allegiances back to Sora permenantly.
Sora as a Heartless
The three reteam to defeat Riku, and later Maleficent, before finding Kairi's body in a comatose state. Riku, now revealed to have been possessed by Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, expains that Kairi's heart is hiding within Sora and that it must be extracted with the Keyblade of heart in order to finish the artifical Keyhole that's being constructed in the castle with the Seven Princesses of Heart (Snow White, Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine from Aladdin, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and Kairi); this Keyhole would lead to the location of Kingdom Hearts, an area where the heart of all kingdoms reside and is said to be a source of immeasurable power and knowledge. Sora tries to seal the Bastion's Keyhole but is unable to due to it being incomplete; Sora realizes that he must free Kairi's heart hiding within him, and decides to willingly stab himself with Ansem-Riku's Keyblade of heart, freeing all Seven Princesses' hearts and completing the Keyhole. Kairi awakens and witnesses Sora succumbing to darkness and mourns with Donald and Goofy; Ansem tries to kill Kairi having deemed her purpose fulfilled, but Riku manages to regain control of his body to warn the group that a swarm of Heartless will take over the castle and instructs them to escape. During their fleeing, they run into a docile Heartless, to which Kairi quickly deduces is actually Sora. As the Heartless storm their way into the Bastion, a bright light repels them, which has turned the docile Heartless back into Sora. The Beast returns to stave off the swarm as he continues to search for Belle, allowing Sora and his party to escape. Sora, Donald, and Goofy drop Kairi off at Traverse Town before making their way back to the Bastion.

Back at Hollow Bastion, Sora manages to successfully seal its Keyhole and reunites with Squall, Yuffie, Cid Highwind, and Aerith Gainsborough, revealing that Hollow Bastion was once their home. The revived Princesses also arrive to inform Sora that Ansem has escaped to the End of the World - a place of darkness formed by all of the worlds that have been destroyed by the Heartless. Sora follows him there and finds him on the ruins of Destiny Islands; there, Ansem tells Sora that all worlds are born in darkness and is destined to be consumed by it and that all hearts ultimately share the same fate as he believe it is its true essence; Sora rebukes his beliefs, declaring that hearts will always have a "light that never goes out". Sora, Donald, and Goofy ultimately battle Ansem, which takes them to the abyss that leads to the Door to Kingdom Hearts. The trio eventually defeat his ultimate form, the World of Chaos. In desperation, Ansem tries to open the Door to Kingdom Hearts, but the light from within seemingly destroys him. Sora, Donald, and Goofy try to close the door to prevent the Heartless from swarming in, and are fortunately helped by a freed Riku and King Mickey. Both Sora and Mickey use their respective Keyblades to seal the Door from both sides, leaving Riku and Mickey stranded on the other side while the End of the World begins to fade away, signifying the restoration of the destroyed worlds. Sora also finds Kairi as she returns to the restored Destiny Islands, promising to come back for her.
In an after credits scene, Sora, Donald, and Goofy, now finding themselves in an unknown grassy area, encounter Pluto with a letter from Mickey. This renews their hope of figuring out how to find Riku and the King.
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories[]

Picking up where the after credits scene left off, Sora, Donald, and Goofy are camping on the field after following Pluto. At night, Sora wakes up and sees a mysterious figure in a black hooded cloak. Sora, with Donald and Goofy close behind, follows him down a path leading to Castle Oblivion, a mysterious locale where the floors are worlds from the previous game taken from Sora's memories that disappear the further they explore the castle. It is also here where Sora first encounters the members of Organization XIII, a secret villainous group of Nobodies who wish to reclaim their original hearts and become whole again to form Kingdom Hearts. Gradually, Sora starts to remember a girl he believes he knew back at Destiny Islands named Naminé; upon learning from Organization member Larxene that she is somewhere in the castle, Sora becomes determined to find her.

Later in the game, Sora reunites with Riku yet again; he informs Sora that he will be the one to rescue Naminé and that she doesn't want to see him. This upsets Sora as he has slowly become obsessed with finding her. Another member of the Organization, Vexen, also appears to warn Sora not to blindly trust his memory, but is eliminated by fellow member Axel before getting the chance to tell him about the memories from "the other side of [his] heart" and the existence of his own Nobody. Riku later reappears to angrily fight Sora upon discovering that the two share the same memories of Naminé as well as the same charms that was supposedly given by her; Sora becomes even more determined to find her before Riku can and runs off into the next floor, which is a facsimile of Destiny Islands. After angrily defeating the Darkside residing in the floor, Sora finally meets Naminé after being freed by Axel, who is revealed to be a double agent; she tries to remind him of Kairi, only for Riku to reappear once more to challenge Sora for the right to protect Naminé. In order to stop him, Naminé breaks Riku's memories in his heart, knocking him unconscious; it is then revealed by Larxene that this Riku is a replica created by Vexen and that Naminé has been manipulating Sora's memories to control him (part of which involved swapping Kairi with herself instead) as part of a plan to usurp control of Organization XIII, spearheaded by the mysterious figure Sora met at the very beginning of the game - now revealed to be another member going by the name of Marluxia.

Sora forgives Naminé for all that she has done, explaining that while his memories may not be real, his feelings still are. Sora, Donald, and Goofy then make their way to the Castle's 13th floor to face off against Marluxia, while Naminé stays behind to watch over Replica-Riku; upon arriving, the trio witness a tense duel between Marluxia and Axel, with Naminé suddenly appearing as a human shield. Sora challenges Axel and prevails against him before going after a fleeing Marluxia; Naminé is ordered to erase Sora's memory, but resists his command, only for Sora to let her do it in order to protect herself. Replica-Riku also arrives to assist the trio in their final battle against Marluxia. After a long and greuling fight, Sora manages to destroy both Marluxia and his decoy and locking the door to the room. Afterwards, Naminé instructs Sora, Donald, and Goofy to enter Memory Pods so they can remain in stasis while she works on restoring their memories. Sora promises to meet her again some day before he falls asleep.
During Riku's solo campaign, after fighting his way from Castle Oblivion's basement and destroying Replica-Riku, he meets Naminé after Sora, Donald, and Goofy enter stasis. He sees their Memory Pods and turns down her offer to join them to help control the darkness within him. He tells her to take care of Sora before departing on his own journey.
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days[]

During the game's events, Sora is still in stasis inside the Memory Pods, which have now been moved to the Old Mansion in Twilight Town by Naminé and a mysterious man named DiZ. During the restoration process, Naminé discovers that some of his memories are not returning fully, mainly due to the existence of both Roxas (Sora's Nobody) and Xion (Roxas' experimental Replica); even after Xion disappears and her heart merges with Sora's, the process is still halted. DiZ decides to send Riku to capture Roxas, planning to merge him with Sora. After a brief struggle, Riku manages to subdue Roxas and hands him over to DiZ, who places him in a simulation of Twilight Town with no memories of his time in Organization XIII.
Kingdom Hearts II[]

Sora's restoration sees a dramatic increase in progress thanks to Roxas' six days in the Simulated Twilight Town. Eventually, after a year of slumber, a now 15-year-old Sora is reawakened alongside Donald and Goofy with his memories fully restored. They exit Castle Oblivion and into the train station at the real Twilight Town, where King Mickey appears and instructs them to ride a specific train that will take them to the Mysterious Tower. There, they meet the sorcerer Yen Sid (from Fantasia), who informs them on the current state of the world, as well as explaining Nobodies and Organization XIII. Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather (from Sleeping Beauty) gift Sora with brand new clothes and send him on his way to Hollow Bastion.

Upon arriving, the trio find that Hollow Bastion is in the middle of reconstruction efforts, spearheaded by the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee, its members comprised of Aerith Gainsborough, Yuffie Kisaragi, Cid Highwind, and Squall Leonhart, who also make Sora and company honorary members. They are also ambushed by members of the Organization, but are quickly repelled. From this point, the trio use Hollow Bastion as home base after their travels to several new Disney worlds, this time inspired by The Lion King, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, saving them from the torment unleashed by Organization XIII and their associates while making new allies along the way and continuing their mission to find Riku and King Mickey.

Later in the game, Sora returns to Twilight Town where he meets Organization member Saïx, who warns him about Axel's intentions to turn him into a Heartless again. Sora later meets up with Hayner, Pence, and Olette - Roxas' friends during his stay in the Simulated Twilight Town - who inform him that Kairi was spotted in the town before being taken by Axel. After traveling to more worlds, Sora, Donald, and Goofy return to Hollow Bastion and, after finding a computer in a study and being transported into its programs (in a world inspired by TRON), they reunite with Mickey; he reveals that the Ansem they previously defeated was an imposter who took the name from the real Ansem, and that he was Ansem's Nobody counterpart and the supposed leader of Organization XIII. At this exact moment, the Organization launches a massive invasion of the Bastion, with its residents working to fight off the incoming hordes of Heartless. During the scuffle, Sora confronts the leader, Xemnas, whom Mickey realizes is actually the Nobody of Ansem's former apprentice, Xehanort. The Organization eventually retreats, but Mickey follows after them; during this, Saïx meets up with Sora again, informing him that the Organization plots to reform Kingdom Hearts and that they have held Kairi hostage. After Maleficent returns and is defeated after betraying the Organization in an attempt to take Kingdom Hearts for herself, Sora, Donald, and Goofy set off to find a way to track down their headquarters and defeat Xemnas once and for all.
Roxas confronts Sora
After revisiting the previous worlds, Sora, Donald, and Goofy find their way back to the Old Mansion in Twilight Town to return to the Simulation and enter its Mansion, where they locate a passageway. They find themselves ambushed by a horde of Nobodies, but Axel arrives and sacrifices himself to assist the party; he apologizes for kidnapping Kairi and opens a portal to The World That Never Was before fading away. Upon arriving, Sora is confronted by Roxas, who takes them both to his Station of Awakening; Roxas attacks out of anger, frustated at the fact that Axel chose to assist Sora instead of reviving him as originally promised. Sora eventually defeats Roxas and returns to the real world, where he makes his way to the Organization's The Castle That Never Was alongside Donald, Goofy, and King Mickey, where they discover that their reformed Kingdom Hearts is nearly complete. Inside, Sora and company fights their way up to the top of the castle where they are reunited with Kairi, who was freed by Naminé, and Riku, who appears as Xehanort's Heartless, while Mickey reunites with DiZ, who reveals himself to be the real Ansem the Wise; Riku also informs Sora that Roxas was his Nobody. Mickey and Ansem try to seal Kingdom Hearts, but are unable to do so, damaging it in the process and allowing an endless wave of Heartless to spawn while Riku is restored to his original self; Maleficent and Pete arrive to fend off the horde while everyone heads for Xemnas.

Sora and company encounter Xemnas at the very top of The Castle That Never Was. Sora challenges him directly, launching a series of grueling fights and Xemnas merging with the remains of the damaged Kingdom Hearts. After his supposed defeat, Roxas and Naminé appear before Sora and Kairi and merge with their respective originals while Naminé opens the Corridor of Darkness to allow everyone's safe escape. However, the corridor suddenly closes before Sora and Riku can exit, as Xemnas reemerges. The boys successfully defeat him after another intense battle, finally destroying Xemnas once and for all. The two make their way to the Dark Margin, where the Door to Light appears before them and transports the boys back to Destiny Islands, reuniting them with Kairi, Donald, Goofy, and Mickey.
Kingdom Hearts coded[]
Data-Sora as he appears in Re:coded
Sometime after, Jiminy Cricket discovers an entry in his Journal that he has been using to chronicle Sora's journey that he did not write: "We must return to free them from their torment" (rewritten as "Their hurting will be mended when you return to end it" in the Nintendo DS remake Re:coded). Mickey digitizes the Journal and discovers its Datascape has been corrupted with bugs that resemble the Heartless. In an effort to debug the Datascape and investigate the mysterious entry, Mickey creates Data-Sora, a virtual version of Sora made from the data of Jiminy's journal entries. Mickey sends Data-Sora, as well as Donald and Goofy who have been imported to the Datascape, on a mission to destroy the bugs by visiting digital versions of previous worlds the real Sora has visited prior.
Halfway through the game, Data-Sora and his party discover that Pete and Maleficent have infiltrated the Datascape as part of a new plot at world domination; Maleficent kidnaps the physical manifestation of Jiminy's Journal, who has taken the appearance of Riku. The group pursue them to the digital Hollow Bastion, where Pete infects the Journal and forces him to fight Data-Sora. Left with no choice, Data-Sora debugs the Journal from within, causing everything in the datascape to reset, including Data-Sora's memories. The debugging also exposes the central bug responsible for the corruption that has taken the form of Sora's Heartless, to which Data-Sora destroys before Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Jiminy are transported out of the datascape and the reset is completed.
Data-Sora confronts Data-Roxas
After the reset is finished, in which Maleficent and Pete are seemingly vaporised from, the Journal uncovers extra data that holds the secret to the unexplained message; King Mickey returns to the datascape and guides the reset Data-Sora to the digital Castle Oblivion, where he encounters and is challenged by Data-Roxas as a show of "true hurt". After defeating him, Data-Sora makes his way deeper in the castle, where he meets Data-Naminé, who reveals that the real Naminé left the mysterious message in the journal after discovering a set of memories relating to those who are closely tied to the real Sora's heart during the restoration process, and that the corruption was an unfortunate side effect; she explains that it is the real Sora's destiny to save those specific people (herself, Roxas, Axel, Xion, Terra, Aqua, and Ventus) from the pain inside their own hearts. Data-Sora thanks Data-Naminé, fulfilling the promise the real Sora made to the real Naminé in Chain of Memories, and erases herself from the journal. Mickey returns to the real world and pens a letter to the real Sora, telling him about what he's learned. Sora, Riku, and Kairi can be seen reading the letter in the after credits scene for Kingdom Hearts II.
In a secret ending exclusive to Re:coded, Yen Sid warns Mickey that with the destruction of both Xehanort's Heartless and Nobody, the real Master Xehanort will make an inevitable return. In preparation, he orders Mickey to summon Sora and Riku to begin their Mark of Mastery exam.
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[]

Sora and Riku begin their Mark of Mastery exams to become Keyblade Masters and have the power necessary to defeat Master Xehanort (known as the Power of Waking). To complete their exams, Yen Sid sends the boys to Sleeping Worlds - seven worlds that have been caught in a sleeping state following their destructions from the Heartless (based on Disney films such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Fantasia, TRON: Legacy, and Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers) and have been overrun with Nightmare Dream Eaters. To begin their journey, Yen Sid transports the boys back in time to Destiny Islands during its destruction from the first Kingdom Hearts.
Sora alongside Neku Sakuraba
In Sora's campaign, he escapes Destiny Islands and makes his way to Traverse Town. After meeting Neku Sakuraba, Joshua, and Rhyme (from Square Enix's The World Ends With You), Sora begins to travel the worlds. During his journey, Sora (and Riku in his own campaign) frequently crosses paths with a mysterious young man who is accompanied by Ansem, Seeker of Darkness and Xemnas. After sealing the Keyholes of the Sleeping Worlds, Sora suddenly appears in The World That Never Was and is confronted by Organization XIII member Xigbar, who reveals that the Organization has been tracking him down since the beginning of the game. Sora later encounters the mysterious man again, now revealing himself to be the younger version of Xehanort; Ansem, Seeker of Darkness visited the young Xehanort through time travel and brought the young man to the present in an effort to gather all incarnations of Xehanort to form a new Organization XIII. Sora makes his way to the Castle That Never Was where both Xemnas and Xigbar await; they explain that the true purpose of the Organization is to create thirteen vessels to harbor the essence of Xehanort, and that Sora is intended to be the thirteenth vessel as part of his plan to summon the χ-blade - the most powerful Keyblade that can open the path to Kingdom Hearts - by pitting the thirteen Seekers of Darkness against the seven Guardians of Light. Sora angrily refuses and defeats Xemnas. However, he falls into a deep sleep due to his weakened heart; as he succumbs to the darkness, Sora is enveloped by Ventus' Keyblade Armor.

Meanwhile, Riku learns from Ansem, Seeker of Darkness that his entire exam has been set within Sora's dreams as a Dream Eater and that he has been defeating the darkness within Sora's heart. Riku defeats Ansem and rescues the comatose Sora in the Castle with help from Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Lea - the human reincarnation of Axel - while the young Xehanort and his incarnations return to their original places in the timeline, leaving with a warning about their imminent final battle. Riku takes Sora back to Yen Sid, who informs him that he has the power to wake Sora back up. Riku uses this power to enter Sora's Dive to the Heart, where he battles a Nightmare-possessed Sora, still clad in Ventus' armor. After Riku manages to free Sora's heart, he arrives at a simulation of Destiny Islands and meets Data-Ansem the Wise, who gives him Ansem's Code - data that was hidden inside Sora's heart that can help him in his quest to save those close to him.
Riku returns to the real world and reunites with a now-awake Sora. Yen Sid makes Riku an official Keyblade Master; although Sora failed, he remains unfazed and congratulates his friend. He then returns to the Sleeping Worlds to thank the Dream Eaters.
Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-[]
A brief scene features Sora returning from the Sleeping Worlds, discovering that Riku and King Mickey have departed to rescue Aqua, while Lea has left to begin his training as a Keyblade Wielder alongside Kairi. Yen Sid informs him that he needs to train to regain his strength after nearly becoming a vessel for Xehanort. In the Gummi Ship, Sora uses his Keyblade to open a Gate that leads into their next location, Olympus Coliseum, to begin training with Hercules.
Kingdom Hearts III[]

Upon arriving at Olympus, Sora, Donald, and Goofy immediately team up with Hercules to defeat Hades and stop his hostile takeover. Sora asks him how he regains his strength to save those he loves, to which Hercules responds with telling him that he should find his own ways of doing so by fighting "with all his heart". Sora returns to Yen Sid in his Mysterious Tower, with a worry but optimism about whether or not he can acquire the Power of Waking. Riku and Mickey also return, failing to locate Aqua in the Dark World. Hypothesizing that Aqua might've fallen deeper into darkness, Sora volunteers to find her. After Yen Sid and Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather gift Sora with new clothes that have been enchanted to help him evade the forces of darkness, Sora, Donald, and Goofy make their way to other worlds - this time based on Frozen, Tangled, Big Hero 6, Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. In the Gummi Ship, the trio learn from Ienzo (one of Ansem the Wise's apprentices) that Sora has Roxas' heart residing within him, and his physical condition must be carefully observed due to this and the other heart residing within him.
The trio head to Twilight Town to create data and a vessel for Roxas' heart. There, they recollect previous memories from coded and Dream Drop Distance and are ambushed by hordes of Nobodies and Heartless. They head back into the Old Mansion to access the Simulated Twilight Town, planning to use Ansem's Code to rebuild Roxas' body. However, after encountering Xemnas and Ansem, Seeker of Darkness in the Datascape, Sora decides to restore Roxas in the real Twilight Town instead. Riku surmises that Organization XIII might be using artificial human replicas as vessels by time traveling members to exist in the present; Sora realizes that Roxas can only be revived with a human replica to live.
Sora and Ventus meet for the first time
The trio then make their way to Destiny Islands, where Sora finds the Master's Defender Keyblade abandoned on the beach. He uses it to open the pathway to The Dark World, where he finds Riku and Mickey battling Aqua, who has succumbed to the darkness to become Anti-Aqua. After defeating her and taking her back to the Realm of Light, Sora, Donald, Goofy, and a fully restored Aqua head to Castle Oblivion, where she uses the Master's Defender Keyblade to restore it to its original form - the Land of Departure. Inside, they find a sleeping Ventus, with Vanitas arriving to battle Aqua. During the fight, Vanitas attempts to break the barrier containing them, but Sora manages to rediscover his Power of Waking just in time to revive Ventus, saving her and forcing Vanitas to retreat. The group return to the Mysterious Tower to rendezvous with Mickey, Riku, Kairi, and Lea as they prepare for the final battle ahead. Sora, Riku, and Kairi return to Destiny Islands for one final moment of peace.
The Seven Guardians of Light, with Donald and Goofy
The Seven Guardians of Light - Sora, Riku, Kairi, Ventus, Aqua, Lea, and Mickey - along with Donald and Goofy arrive at the Keyblade Graveyard, where Master Xehanort, Xemnas, Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, Vanitas, Young Xehanort, Terra-Xehanort, an amnesiac Xion, and the rest of Organization XIII await them. A giant horde of Heartless, Nobodies, and Unversed are unleashed onto the seven, where they are quickly overwhelmed and consumed one by one. Sora breaks down in tears as he fears he is useless without his friends before being consumed himself. Sora then finds himself in a realm in limbo known as The Final World where he meets a mysterious spirit only known as the Nameless Star, a bodiless Naminé, and a Dream Eater known as Chirithy. Sora is guided by Chirithy and Kairi back to the Realm of Light and uses the Power of Waking to revive his friends and send them back in time to the moment right before their defeat, this time averted by Terra's lingering will.

The Guardians proceed to defeat most of the Organization, all while Terra regains control of his body to reunite with Ventus and Aqua, Xion regains her memories after her heart is freed from within Sora thanks to Ventus, and Roxas regains his own heart and reunites with Xion and Lea. With Master Xehanort as the last man standing, he provokes Sora by destroying Kairi's body, which would allow him access to the χ-blade and summon Kingdom Hearts. However, Sora, Donald, and Goofy use his time travel powers against him and take him back to Scala ad Caelum, where he trained as a young boy, and eventually defeat him after a long and grueling battle. After the rest of the Guardians rejoin the trio, the spirit of Xehanort's former classmate and friend Master Eraqus emerges from Terra, convincing Xehanort to surrender; the latter dies and his soul ascends to Kingdom Hearts along with Eraqus, while Sora and his friends use the χ-blade to close it and return to the present. Sora then uses the Power of Waking one more time to rescue Kairi at the consequence of his existence being erased from the Realm of Light. As his friends celebrate on Destiny Islands, Kairi stays behind to see Sora fade away.
In the secret ending, Sora and Riku awaken in a new world called the Quadratum, a world that exists "on the other side" - in actuality, it is the real life Shibuya Center in Tokyo, Japan. Sora then finds himself staring at a building displaying a large "104" neon sign (meant to mirror the 109 department store), while Riku finds the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. It is later revealed that Yozora, the protagonist of the fictional game Verum Rex as shown in the Toy Story world, is observing them from the roof of the Government Building.
Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind[]

In the DLC expansion of Kingdom Hearts III, the aftermath of the game's events are told in three stories:
In "Re Mind", it depicts how Sora managed to save Kairi. Sora uses the Power of Waking to travel back in time to the beginning of the battle between the Seven Guardians and Organization XIII, being instructed by Chirithy to connect with the hearts of the Seven. After succeeding, both he and Kairi travel back to The Final World and take Chirithy back to the Realm of Light to reunite him with Ventus while also freeing Naminé's heart, before returning to Destiny Islands where Sora fades away.
In the "Limitcut Episode", Sora's friends have begun a search for him, while Kairi has entered stasis as Ansem the Wise's test subject to help Sora. After Riku fails to gather conclusive research after analysing digital copies of Sora and the Organization's members, he is told to meet with Yen Sid, who believes his and two other people's dreams could provide a way to find Sora.
Sora facing Yozora in the Quadratum
In the "Secret Episode", Sora encounters Yozora in The Final World; Yozora explains that he has been requested to save Sora, but questions his identity and challenges him to a duel atop the 104 building in the Quadratum. If Sora prevails, Yozora disappears, claiming his powers "must not be needed yet". Sora then reappears in The Final World, frustatingly exclaiming that none of this makes sense (if Sora is defeated, his body begins to crystalize as Yozora cryptically tells him that he will be saved, leading Sora to make the exact same conclusion as in the other ending).
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory[]

In her stasis, Kairi creates a dream world made up of her memories of Sora as it may contain clues of his whereabouts and how to find him. At the end of her dream, Kairi encounters and battles an illusion of Master Xehanort, during which her body is remotely controlled by Sora and is able to defeat him; before Xehanort disappears, he mentions a world on the "other side". Kairi awakens and reports her findings to Ansem the Wise, who concludes that the "other side" being referenced is a fictional world that exists beyond their reality. The Fairy Godmother (from the film Cinderella) then sends both her and Riku to The Final World to meet the Nameless Star, who reveals this world to be her place of origin, the Quadratum; Riku opens a portal to it to begin his search for Sora while Kairi stays behind to continue her Keyblade training.
Kingdom Hearts IV[]

Sora will return in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts IV, which will start the new Lost Master Arc. In the game, Sora still finds himself trapped in the Quadratum, now having his own apartment in Minami-Aoyama and being an ally with Strelitzia, a Keyblade wielder from Kingdom Hearts Union χ. Other than Riku, Donald and Goofy have also begun their search into Sora's whereabouts.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
Fighter[]
Sora was announced to join Ultimate during his gameplay presentation hosted by Masahiro Sakurai on October 5th, 2021, confirming him to be the final fighter in Fighters Pass Volume 2 and the overall game.
Sora's attacks mimic his usual gameplay in the Kingdom Hearts series, having the ability to perform 3-Hit Combos and casting Magic spells from his Kingdom Key Keyblade. His Final Smash traps characters and seals the Keyhole of Smash Bros.
He was released on October 18th, 2021 (October 19th in time zones east of the Americas), alongside the stage Hollow Bastion, 10 music tracks, and a Kingdom Hearts-themed Spirit Board as a part of Challenger Pack 11.
Aesthetic[]
Sora's Station of Awakening has a chance of appearing in the Dive to the Heart form of Hollow Bastion; however, it is only possible if Sora himself is not on the stage. His station features Riku, Kairi, a Paopu Fruit (replacing Donald Duck), and the Highwind (replacing Goofy), while the background depicts Destiny Islands, and the ring bears the Crown symbol often associated with him.
Spirits[]
A Fighter Spirit of Sora can be obtained after beating his Classic Mode route. Alternate Spirits of Sora as he appears in Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts III, and Kingdom Hearts II's Timeless River world can be purchased individually from the Shop for 300G each after downloading Challenger Pack 11. As they are Fighter Spirits, they do not have their own Spirit Battles and cannot be used.

Trivia[]
- Sora is the third playable character to be owned by a western company, being Disney; the other two are Banjo & Kazooie and Steve and Alex, both of which are owned by Microsoft.
- Sora is also the first fighter to represent a non-gaming company; however, Disney formerly had their own video game studio, Disney Interactive Studios, before its closure in 2016 but were not involved in the development of any Kingdom Hearts titles.
- According to Masahiro Sakurai, Sora was the most-requested character on the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, but could not be added to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U at the time for a multitude of legal reasons, leading to Bayonetta being the chosen winner among "negotiable and realizable" characters.
- It could be for these legal reasons that no Disney characters or iconography (apart from the Mickey Head keychain attached to Sora's Keyblade) appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- With the Mickey Head keychain, this makes Sora a part of a group of playable characters who reference media outside of gaming (alongside the Final Fantasy and Pokémon characters), as Mickey Mouse originated from films.
