Incineroar is a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was announced as the last unlockable character in the game during the November 1st, 2018 Smash Direct.
When unlocked, it is fought at the Smash Bros. version of Boxing Ring.
Attributes[]
Strengths[]
- Excellent throws, including one of the strongest back throws in the game.
- Fast frame data despite terrible mobility.
- Darkest Lariat along with effective grabs makes shielding ineffective against Incineroar.
- Heavy weight grants high survivability.
- Darkest Lariat has high priority and knockback.
- Alolan Whip can launch at varying angles, which can confuse opponents and throw off their recovery. The Back Body Drop can kill opponents off the ceiling at very high percentages. The Lariat has high horizontal knockback that can kill fairly early. Flubbing the attack after grabbing an opponent with it off-stage can prevent the opponent from properly recovering.
- Cross Chop is an exceptionally powerful kill move with high knockback.
- Revenge is a counter that increases the power of Incineroar's next attack, the effects of which can stack up to three times, allowing Incineroar to deal massive damage and kill very early. Revenge can easily deal with projectiles, one of Incineroar's main weaknesses.
Weaknesses[]
- No projectiles, entirely dependent on close ranged combat.
- Poses after landing certain attacks. These poses can be cancelled, but can also be a hindrance.
- Has the slowest dash speed in the game.
- Poor air speed.
- Rather large hurtbox makes Incineroar susceptible to combos and juggling.
- Alolan Whip leaves Incineroar open to attack if he misses. Failing to press the attack button during Alolan Whip can cause Incineroar to take recoil damage.
- Cross Chop has very poor vertical and horizontal distance, and is easy to self-destruct with.
- Revenge is vulnerable to grabs.

- Neutral Attack: A combo consisting of a throat thrust (potentially based on its former signature move, Throat Chop), a knee strike, an elbow strike.
- Forward Tilt: A knife hand jab.
- Up Tilt: An arcing headbutt.
- Down Tilt: A leg sweep.
- Dash Attack: A knee strike.

- Forward Smash: A standing dropkick, similar to Bowser's.
- Up Smash: A double axe handle.
- Down Smash: Incineroar leaps up into the air and then body slams back to the ground.

- Floor Attack (Trip): Swipes behind itself, then punches forward.

- Forward aerial: A dropkick, similar to King K. Rool's.
- Back aerial: A back kick.
- Up aerial: An arching leg sweep, comparable to the Mii Brawler's.
- Down aerial: Stomps downwards in a Superman pose.

- Pummel: Headbutts the opponent.
- Forward Throw: A giant swing, similar to Mario and Wario's back throw.
- Back Throw: A German suplex that slams the opponent into the ground.

- Side Taunt: Pounds chest and lunges forward.
- Down Taunt: Kneels and grins while opening his arms.

- Holds out his claw, twiddling his fingers with a smirk on his face.

- Swipes in two directions while squatting, then growls while putting his arms back.
- Holds the champion's belt up in the air, then holds his finger out.
- Growls fiercely, then holds a punch to the camera.
In competitive play[]
At the start of Ultimate, Incineroar was considered a mid tier fighter by most professionals, thanks to its respectable combo potential, its high overall damage output being bolstered by Revenge, its back throw being strong enough to potentially KO earlier than Ness' back throw, and Cross Chop being a potent, albeit self-destructive KO confirm from down throw. Incineroar also attained a decent amount of success from players, especially Magister, who placed well at both regional and national tournaments.
However, as the metagame progressed, Incineroar saw limited representation and below-average results at major tournaments. Magister's tournament attendance would also begin to wane while also achieving less sucessful placements at tournaments that he did attend. Although Incineroar has received useful buffs via game updates, especially in regard to its poor recovery, its results continued to decline. As a result, most professionals began to consider Incineroar as a low tier or even bottom tier fighter.
As of 2021 however, Incineroar's results have improved thanks to dedicated mains. Skyjay, in particular, reached new heights with Incineroar by defeating several top players and achieving consistent top 48 placements at major tournaments. In addition, several other Incineroar players have continuously achieved respectable placements at a regional level. Due to this rise in representation, opinions on Incineroar have shifted positively: some professionals (such as Dabuz) once again view it as a mid tier fighter, whereas others (such as ESAM) believe that Incineroar is potentially capable of rising beyond the mid tier. Overall, the competitive community's general consensus is that Incineroar is a solidly capable mid tier fighter in spite of its rather small playerbase.
Classic Mode: Burning Pro Wrestling Spirit![]
Incineroar's opponents are all heavy characters and are stylized in a way as if it was similar to a Championship Tournament. Additionally, all rounds aside from the final round take place on Boxing Ring.
Role in World of Light[]
Although Incineroar does not appear in the World of Light opening cutscene, it was vaporized and later imprisoned alongside the rest of the fighters (except Kirby) when Galeem unleashed his beams of light.
Incineroar was one of the many fighters that fell under Dharkon's control upon Galeem's first defeat. It can be found on the southwest path of The Dark Realm, where the spirit of Caeda must be beaten to access it.

- Incineroar's title, "Incineroar enters the ring!", is actually quite literal when it is revealed in Ken's trailer. Additionally, Ken trash-talks Incineroar (as per his personality) when it appears, since their moveset involves fire.
- Incineroar was Unshō Ishizuka‘s last Pokémon character to be voiced in Japanese, before his death on August 13th, 2018 prior to its reveal.
- Incineroar has many moves that resemble attacks used by Zangief and Alex from Street Fighter. Zangief's spirit battle uses Incineroar as the fighter.
- Incineroar's 6th color variation resembles Big the Cat from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. Big's spirit battle uses Incineroar as the fighter.
- According to the producer Masahiro Sakurai, Decidueye was originally meant to be the new Pokemon fighter in Ultimate instead of Incineroar, but was dropped out and chooses Incineroar, due to Incineroar having a more unique move set.
