The Falchion is Marth's sword. It remains his only weapon through his appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series, and is Fire Emblem's "icon" for both Melee and Brawl. All of Marth's attacks use The Falcion with the exception of grabs and throws.
In the games, the Falchion appears to be a golden broadsword during in-game battle sequences. However, its has been shown as a longsword with a steadily widening blade in its official artwork. The Falchion's design has been implemented in several other swords main characters use in Fire Emblem. It is a common misconception that Marth needs the Fire Emblem shield to wield it. In the prologue of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, his father is shown wielding the Falchion without the Fire Emblem. The same goes for Marth's ancestor Anri. The Fire Emblem was only given to Marth to be used as a symbol of all the free peoples on his continent.
The Falchion has a property no other weapon has: attacks are stronger if landed at the tip of the blade, which acts as a sweetspot. Successful use of this is the crux of Marth's success.
Trivia[]
- Marth's sword Falchion is not actually a falchion. His sword is a broadsword that resembles a Claymore or a Longsword.
- The Falchion appears in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra as a treasure in The Great Cave Offensive game.
