The Fake Smash Ball is a very dangerous item in the Super Smash Bros. franchise. It first appeared Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Due to their volatile nature, these deceptive items can also be called "Smash Bombs", especially in Japan.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The Fake Smash Ball has an uncommon chance of appearing instead of the Smash Ball. If a player breaks it, it will explode in an x pattern, and everyone hit by the explosion will take large amounts of damage and tremendous knockback. It will not allow the player to activate their Final Smash like the real Smash Ball. These are easier to break than ordinary Smash Balls.

Fake Smash Balls can be told from their normal counterpart by the line going horizontally being thicker and the vertical line a little thinner than the real Smash Ball, an inverted version of the Smash Bros. logo. They will almost always float so that they can be told from regular Smash Balls.
